CHILDREN AND VOCATIONAL SKILLS

It's no longer news that for our economy to grow, we need to change our ideology and create a realistic blueprint. Today, we have millions of youths who has acquired different academic certificate but finds it difficult to juggle between survival in the society. What then is the fate of children who can't go to school, children who are vulnerable and lives in the street?

Teaching these children skills allows them participate in hands-on or practical skills which will serve as a firm foundation to survive and strive in our society today. The beauty is that, these children get the chance to bring out their inner strength, produce products and render services.

It's important for these children to acquire practical and workable knowledge in specific trade or occupation rather than begging before they can eat. They get to understand the world of work and responsibilities, how to manage finance and be productive instead of searching for jobs which seems unavailable rather they will create employment opportunities for other kids and the society at large.

Let's give them the skills they will use on a long-run than bless them with N20 daily to buy food. Let's teach them how to compete favourably in the society.

Giving these vulnerable children the opportunity to learn skills will go a long way in contributing to the development process of the society at large, as they will conquer poverty. They will be open to creativity, increase source of income, create and boost strong network and become the change we want to see in our society.

Allowing these vulnerable children access vocational skills will also pave way for them to develop life skills such as problem solving, self control, management skills, team work, humility, determination and much more.

Should we rather laugh at these vulnerable kids when they roam the street? Do we feel embarrassed when these children pass by with their tattered clothes and stinky bodies? Should we continue to trap these children in the cold hands of the night? Should we shower their crying soul with the heavy rains? We think it's time to act differently. Let's give the vulnerable children the opportunity to beat the system and design their future. Let's give them the opportunity to hone their skills while making money and developing their community.

THE PLIGHT OF THE ALMAGIRIS

Being an Almagiri in our present world is a default ticket to struggle and continuous suffering. For a child trying to seek for knowledge, end up in the street struggling to survive the different path life has to offer.

The Almagiris are deprived the experience of a normal child upbringing. They grew up in the street, nurture and molded by the street without love, compassion and guidance. Other children have their parents to guide them but the Almagiris have the street to depend on as they accept what she has to offer while been exposed to abuse, humiliation, used as slaves and easily recruited for crimes.

Today, most of these children are product of broken home, nonchalant system and economy challenges in the family. They are neglected by parents, shun by the society and betrayed by the system.

These children are condemned to fail by the society as they are seen as nothing but mere destitute. They have become our bad food trash bin, our rag models, our to-do slaves and become hopeless and desperate.

The Champion In Us wants to rebuild their broken image. We want to be a shoulder that carry their plights, a hope that wipes their tears, a voice that sings their questions. We want to be more than just a hand that feed or cloth them. We want to invest skills, knowledge and experience in them which will change their lives forever.

These children are our greatest life warriors who has survived the ills life has to offer. They battle daily with no weapon but HOPE.

THE BEAUTY OF SHARING

Knowledge is power. A power that can build and restore hope and progress in a society. Should we turn a blind eye on the impact it has when we share with others? Everyone has something valuable to share, perhaps you may not trust yourself or believe you can, but we at The Champion In Us believe you can.

With vulnerable children roaming the street, have you ever thought of changing their lives? Do you know your skills can improve their lives? All you have to do is say yes you can.

We are all uniquely gifted with skills, knowledge and experience, how can we transfer such gift to this young fragile heart who has lost hope in a society they don't have identity? Teaching people new skills allow you to see your own uniqueness and to recognize the same uniqueness in others.

You don't need to be an expert to pass your knowledge to others. It is undeniable that some of us have been held back because each time the thought of teaching others struck us, we always feel we aren't good enough to share. It's okay to feel that way but remember you don't need to be an expert before you can impact in people's life with your skills.

The Champion In Us is aware of the knowledge you aren't comfortable to share but we strongly believe that what you are scared of sharing can change a child's life forever and in return this child will want to make a change too because he/she knows what it feels like to be in a world of confusion. A child who was once a prisoner trapped in his world will want other children to experience freedom and growth.

Let's build the beauty of sharing your amazing skills with children who can't afford a meal, children who can't pay for your services, children who doesn't have shoulders to lean on.

BEING AN ORPHAN

A death in the family is tragic and often comes with life changes. Nothing can prepare a child for losing a mother, father or both parents.

Parent serves as our lifeline and they are our first connection to the world. For some, they are the reason behind every breath taken while others see parents as a source of strength.

The Feeling of being an orphan goes beyond our comprehension, we can only imagine their struggles. Living in a world where shelter and feeding becomes the sole responsibility of an orphan could wreak havoc on our society.

Being an orphan comes with unforseen responsibilities, some are lucky to have other family members genuinely welcome and accept them into their lives, some are sent to an orphanage home with their fate not guaranteed, while others are rejected and pushed to the street where they struggle to work like their breath depends on it. They are mistreated at the end of the day and paid peanut.

Being an orphan snatches away your opportunity to celebrate festival with others, unlike other privileged children, you don't have shoulders to lean on, no one to carry your burden, no one to celebrate you, you literally left in a lone world of your own.

Being an orphan put a stop to your life growth. Some children today are school dropout because of lack of finance and care leading to poor performances in school. Some end up losing their lives for not having anyone to support them.

Being an orphan means losing hope and falling into self destruction. You blame yourself for the rejection, hate, darkness, backwardness, abuse and much more. No one should ever feel unwanted and unloved. Being an orphan makes you question your birth as you find yourself struggling to grow.

Being an orphan means accepting all ill treatment from the society who knew no one will protect you. A society that shuts your voice at every opportunity. A society who makes you feel like a burden to yourself and the world at large.

Being an orphan pave way for government and organizations to grow their bank account under the umbrella of providing for the needy while leaving the orphan with little or nothing to make a change in their lives.

Being an orphan has caused more harm to a child. To an orphan, survival is like asking a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. They constantly live in abuse, introduce to crime and drugs as the society offers them the blueprint to a negative life.

Imagine the impact the thought of being an orphan has on a child and the society at large. Life of an orphan varies to different child but at the end they have common plight of losing a strong life support system called PARENT.
