How to start a business with little or no capital in this economy.

Season two.

I met a teacher, she was looking so good and from how she was looking, I knew her 25,000 naira salary can not do that, so I engaged her in a conversation to find out the secrets.

We perceive an entrepreneur when we see them.

She told me she was Into jewelry selling. She has a man that sells jewelry, so she made an agreement with the man to be posting his jewelry pictures and when people want to buy she gets it and sell to them and take her profit.

She said she makes more money than what the school pays her. But curious me asked why she was still teaching?

She said that teaching is her marketing strategy. Since she teaches secondary schools, most of the students sitting for weac patronize her. She gets their numbers and add them on WhatsApp where they see her jewelry.

She also takes advantage of their parents. She gets close to them, get their numbers and send them pictures of jewelry on WhatsApp, most parents will give their children money to pick it up for them.

If she adds this to her church members she sells to and the referral she get from them, she makes so much money monthly.

After talking with her, I was amazed on the strategy she uses to close sales.

It doesn't matter where you are, all you just need to is take advantage of your environment and turn it to your money machine.

She didn't need a shop but she is piggybacking on someone's school parents to make her money.

Aunty Abike, you know how to wash clothes, you have good water supply in your house and you have constant light but the only time you use this talent is when you are Washing your clothes and children clothes, or when you visit your husband to be and wash the whole family clothes. Please it's not bad ooohhh.

Why not make money out of it. I know you will say you are looking for money to rent a shop and buy all they needed things.

Please Abike why don't you start at home. Make a very small size beautiful poster and paste it at your door.

Put a very captivating write-up on it, like Abike hand was laundry. Many people are scared of their clothes being washed in washing machine because they believe it spoils clothes.

Do a small flier and do a little walk to all your neighbor and with a smile, share the flyers to them and give them just few simple reason why they should patronize you.

Tell them that you will deliver the clothes to them, you won't use strong detergents that will spoil they clothes color. Give them a first timers offer.

You then go to your children school or your aunties children school, while taking them to school or picking them up, take a few flyers and share to parents coming to drop their children.

Most parents problem is Washing their children clothes. You can charge more for children clothes because of the stains.

Imagine charging 200 to 500 naira depending on the cloth, and a day you wash like 20 clothes, Abike please press the calculator. Now multiply what you got by 5 days in a week, now multiply what you got by 4 weeks. You will be getting that in a month.

That just for starters, before you know you are employing people to wash for you and you are paying them.

Abike start from where you are. Their are opportunities around you, stop waiting for when some will remember you and give you huge some of money to start business, remember yourself.

This economy is not smiling, so do something that will change your income.

This stratergy blew me off, read through.

Two years ago, when I moved into the apartment I presently occupy, I was looking to buy a center table, so I searched through jiji, found a few I loved, and contacted the sellers.

My plan was to get one the next day, but one of the sellers I didn't even contact, did something very outstanding.

He actually reached me via my jiji DM the next morning, and wrote:

'Hi Mr Nonso, hope you slept fine last night?

I'm Mr. # # , I deal on home accessories and furniture.

I noticed you viewed my ad on jiji, but didn't take action, maybe due to indecision or probably other factors.

However, I can give you a good discount for any of my products, plus free home delivery if you haven't bought from someone else.

You can also drop your Whatsapp contact, so I'll send you the catalogue of different designs for the center tables we have available, with their prices.

Thanks in anticipation".

That message piqued my interest, and I immediately replied him and dropped my contact.

In a few seconds, he reached me via WhatsApp with the catalogue, and I picked one, which he delivered promptly the next day.

After which I went back to Jiji and dropped him a beautiful review.

When he came to deliver the Table, I asked him if he was making sales with that strategy, and he said YES, with heavy smiles.

You see, I learnt something new from that seller.

He was trying out new methods/sales strategies, which was contacting those who viewed his Jiji listings, with a well-crafted personal message.

In that small business of yours, be open to trying new sales strategies.

Sometimes, try doing the opposite of what isn't working for you, and see what works.

Don't be narrow minded.

See what others are doing in their business, read their ads, salespages, content and tweak it to suit your business type.

If you can, PAY them to learn what they know.

Don't allow your stinginess to eat the intestines of your business.

Improve in quality, quantity, packaging and designs: some customers are tired of seeing and tasting same thing over and over again. Make research to improve for your customers. You an do a questionnaire to know what you customers want, that will help in the decision making.

Visit your customers you know place. Just say you want to check on them,. This makes you feel like family to your customers and that leaves a print in their hearts.

Try to remember their birthdays, anniversary, and important occasions. Send them messages on that day. This will make them feel valued and that you have them in mind.

During bad situations, console them. Give them a listening ear. You are making your customers and relationship into a fan. They will become your fan for a very long time and will defend your brand anywhere anytime.

Let me stop here before I over show myself. Just try to be creative and stand out. Connecting with your customers emotionally makes them a fan.
