NO BIG MAN IS COMING.

Dinma and Uche were casually having a discussion.

Almost sixteen years old, they were preparing for their JAMB and WASSCE exams so they could gain admission into a higher institution.

"I can't wait to write my exams and enter the university so I can study Linguistics," Dinma said.

"Me too," Uche affirmed.
"I can't wait to finish school so that I can get married to one big rich man who has plenty of money."

"Even me ooo! My mummy said I’m going to get married to a very big man that has plenty money, so he can take care of me," Uche added.

They kept chattering, and I just looked on.

Everybody's mummy wants them to marry a big rich man, I thought to myself.
Maybe even my mummy too.

We probably stored those words deep in our minds, waiting to finish school so that, as promised, a big man would appear, wallet full and ready to take care of us.

Then, reality set in.

What we see in life and online is the total opposite of all the "my mummy said" fantasies.
Maybe our mummies were wrong.
Life isn’t sending a big man with plenty money.
Now, life says DIY: Do It Yourself.

That mindset :Waiting for a savior kept us drooling in imagination.
But reality set a plot twist and showed us: you can be that big woman with plenty money.
You can take care of yourself.

And now, with this new mindset, we’re all out here striving to become our own version of the “big person,” in our lanes.
Because NO BIG MAN IS COMING TO SAVE YOU IF YOU DON’T SAVE YOURSELF FIRST.

What mindset held you stuck for a while?
What reality shock changed that mindset?
