LESSONS FROM THE BLIND MAN OF LUKE 18:35-43

HE WAS OUT TO SURVIVE! (35 Then it happens that He (Jesus) was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging). This blind man who had neither plans nor aspirations for future (so to say) was going about his daily life of begging to eat for survival. We could say he was at the point of his duty.

HE WAS INQUISITIVE (36: And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant)
Although he was blind, yet he was sensitive to his environment and the happenings around him. He probably wanted to know if the noise meant there is danger around or whatever it was. He didn’t keep mute wondering alone but he asked what was going on! He needed information about what he had perceived around him so he can probably decide what to do next.

INFORMATION IS POWER (37 So, they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by) When he asked the question, he was not distracted at all but listened to get an answer and powerful information was passed to him. We must realize that Information is Power and we must seek information regarding issues of life around us.

WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH THE INFORMATION PASSED TO YOU? (38 And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”) This wise blind man after hearing the powerful information that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he took advantage of that information to get help for himself. He didn’t think to ask for money or justify himself. He did not dwell on his hopelessness but was ready to seek help from Jesus. He wasn’t timid or hesitant. He needed to do something reasonable with the vital information he received.

DON’T LET ANYONE STOP OR SHUSH YOU! (39 Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet!) People and be so mean, cruel and unreasonable. People don’t care nor think about you first. As a matter of fact, some people don’t want good for you as we can see in the story of the blind man. They all knew Jesus was a man of people who goes about doing good. Yet, they were trying to quiet this man who was seeking help after hearing who it was that was passing.

BE PERSISTENT IN YOUR FAITH AND PUSH HARDER! (39b but, he cried out all the more, “Son of David have mercy on me”) This blind man refused to allow anyone makes decisions for him at that moment because they are not in his shoes to understand how much it hurts! They may be disgusted at him for calling out to Jesus for his need and his seeking the attention of the great man passing by, but he will not allow them shut him up and leaving him right where he is for the rest of his life when opportunity to be liberated is right before him. He refused to shut up and kept calling Jesus for help! Refuse to let people shut you up! Speak up and get help! In the end, you will bear your problem alone so don’t let anyone stop you.

YOUR VOICE WILL BE HEARD IF YOU REFUSED TO SHUT UP! (40 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him) the blind man’s cry is not insignificant after all. His voice was not only heard, it also made Jesus stood still and commanded that he be brought. This is what happens when one refuses to shut up in the face of help even when people irritated by your cries are trying to shut you up. Don’t ever shut up or be quiet in the face of hope.

YOU MUST KNOW WHAT YOU WANT IN THE FACE OF HOPE! (41 saying, “What do you want me to do for you? He said, Lord, that I may receive my sight”) when Hope comes unexpectedly, like this man, you must know exactly what you want. There is no time to think, wonder or fiddle with words! There is no time for long or short story or speeches! Just go straight to the point! Don’t forget that your helper decided to interrupt His journey to attend to you due to the voice of hope he heard from you against the Nay Sayers who tried to muffle you up. The last thing you want to do is to waste the time of hope and give an impression that you weren’t worth the wait after all. The last thing you want to do is, making people believe that they were right to try to shut you up. Be smart and certain with your answers.

AFTER SAYING WHAT YOU WANT, POSITION YOURSELF FOR YOUR MIRACLE (Then Jesus said him, “Receive your sight, your faith has made you well”) your faith will bring you Victory over your predicament. Although we highlighted that the man may have given up on hope with no aspiration from the beginning of the first point, yet, it was obvious that this man hopped to get help somehow and he took advantage of the fact that Jesus was passing to seek help for his hopeless situation. This man has obviously been seeking information long before that day which gave him vast knowledge of whom Jesus is and what He is capable of doing for him. One would wonder why he hasn’t gone to one of Jesus’ events to seek healing knowing that he was hoping for it somehow. But we all know how difficult it’s been for those who had sought healing from Jesus’ events previously. Like the one that his friends had to pull down a roof to help him though. It is a matter of being able to go by yourself or having someone that can help you through. And, unlike the Woman with the issues of Blood who had to take the risk to plunge herself into the crowed, this man was blind and had no one. But on the day he heard Jesus was passing by, he decided to do whatever it takes for him to get out of his present state like others who he had heard their stories also.

OBEY HOPE AND DON’T ABANDON YOUR HOPE AFTER RECEIVING YOUR HELP! (43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God.) This blind man was determined to receive his miracle that he displayed a lot of positive energy. After receiving his sight without delay, he began to follow Jesus! He did not say I will stay here and continue begging to raise some more money to invest in the future; he just followed the one who has just healed his eyes and never asked for more.

DON’T KEEP GRUDGE AGAINST THE NAYSAYERS (43b And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God) Isn’t it satisfying enough that God chose to stop and offer you help in front of those who were trying to stop you? You don’t have reason to keep grudge against them. And as we can see, the same people that were trying to shut him up are the ones glorifying God for his healing. This is the more reason why you must not allow anybody to shut you up from receiving your breakthrough.

It has always been my greatest desire to get educated.

I was forced to marry due to many challenges and life offered me something different in Marriage.

Today, I am struggling to send my Kids to school but I also wish to get educated myself.

I still want to go back to School if I get the opportunity.

I'm ready to join many mother, Women, and Females like me to go Back to School.
