This term is *WAR AGAINST DEBTORS* All my post this term will centre on 100% fees collection and increasing your school finances.
The last time I did something like this is was in the year 2022, and some schools key into it , As a testament to that, they now run 98% fees collection .
The journey to 100% fees collection is not easy but I can assure you that it worth it.

I have always found joy in helping others grow, especially in the area of education. It's a passion that drives me to make a positive impact on those around me. Despite my busy schedule, I still volunteer to mentor some fellows from Teach for Nigeria during their fellowship. Looking at my Certificate of Appreciation this morning again is a reminder that when you have the capacity, always lend a helping hand to others."

Avoid offering free summer lessons this holiday season, whether you're starting a new school or running an established one. Instead, focus on setting a suitable fee for your summer program. The key to determining your pricing is to identify the type of parents you want to attract. Consider the quality of students and families you desire to enroll, and set your fees accordingly. By doing so, you'll be able to provide a valuable educational experience while also ensuring the sustainability of your school.

One effective way to follow up with parents is by utilizing Google Forms. Simply create a form, share the link with your parents' WhatsApp group or individual parents, and have them fill it out. The form's purpose will guide the questions you ask. For instance, if you want to gather feedback and address potential complaints, your questions might include:
- Class: [Insert class/grade]
- What do you like about our school?
- In which areas would you like to see improvement?
- Do you have any complaints regarding your child's experience? If yes, please describe.
Sending this Google Form to parents on a weekly basis can help you stay connected and address concerns promptly. Remember, ignoring complaints can lead to parents withdrawing their children from your school. To encourage honest feedback, consider allowing parents to submit their responses anonymously.

Before I share my thoughts on parent engagement and consistency follow-up, I'd like to pose some questions to spark reflection:
1. What strategies do you currently use to engage with parents and guardians?
2. What programs or initiatives have you implemented specifically for parents?
3. How do you communicate with parents, and what channels do you use to reach them?
4. Do you have a complaint book or a feedback system in place to capture parental concerns and suggestions?
Your responses to these questions will help you assess your current approach to parent engagement and identify areas for improvement.

*It's important you read this piece to the end.*
The second half of the term begins tomorrow, and it's crucial to approach it with intentionality. As a school, your actions will significantly influence parents' decisions to either continue or discontinue their association with your institution. Similarly, prospective parents will be making decisions about whether to enroll their children in your school.
Therefore, it's essential to prioritize parent engagement and consistent follow-up this term.
I will elaborate on this critical aspect in my next post, providing valuable insights and practical tips to enhance your school's relationships with parents and guardians.

You Can Teach a Child to Read Without Teaching Any Letter Names, but You Cannot Teach a Child to Read Without Teaching Letter Sounds
When I teach reading, I always teach letter name and sound together, with emphasis on the sounds. However, most people usually only teach the letter names to their children. So often, with the younger, new students I get, one of the first things the parents tell (brag to) me about is that their child knows all the alphabet letters. Yes, that's great, but...
Knowing letter names does little to nothing in helping children learn to read, unfortunately.
Knowing that "Bee You Tee" makes the word "BUT" does not help a child to decode and read the word "BUT"; however, knowing the sounds made by those letters - /b/ /u/ /t/ - allows a child, or anyone, to sound out the word and then connect the sounds to figure out what the word is.
This is why you can teach a child the 26 alphabet letter names, and it would not offer much to help that child learn to read. When teaching letters, you should always teach the letter name and sound together (with emphasis on the sound), and if you choose to only teach one or the other, for whatever reason, then at least teach the letter sounds, because it's the sounds that matter.
