You know how almost everyone around you is suddenly “using AI” now?
Someone is generating fine pictures.
Another person is using it to write captions.
Someone else is using it to tweak their CV.
It feels like we’ve all joined the AI wave.
But let’s be honest, most of us are only scratching the surface.
Learn how to use AI beyond image and video generation.
Let me say this in a very honest way
Nigeria cannot afford to just be a country of AI users.
If all we do is open ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Abacus AI to generate captions, write CVs, and create images, we are only consuming the future, not shaping it.
And countries that only consume technology don’t control it. They depend on it.
Right now, AI is quietly becoming infrastructure, just like electricity and the internet. The people building it will decide how it works, who it works for, and who gets left out.
So the real question is not:
“How can I use AI?”
The better question is:
“How can I be part of the people building what others will use?”
Because that is where power is.
You don’t have to start big or complicated.
Start by understanding how AI actually works beneath the surface.
Learn Python. Not because it is trendy, but because it is the entry point into most AI systems.
Move into Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Understand how models learn patterns, how data shapes outcomes, and why bias happens.
This is where things begin to click.
From there, you can start building small things:
simple chatbots for businesses, tools that analyze sales, systems that help schools, solutions that actually solve Nigerian problems.
Because let’s be real, our realities are different.
If we are not involved in building these systems, who will design AI that understands our languages, our markets, our struggles?
Who will build for the small business owner in Uyo, the student in Ibadan, or the trader in Onitsha?
It won’t happen by accident.
It will happen because people like you decided to go beyond using tools and started creating them.
And no, you don’t have to be a genius.
You just have to be consistent.
Use AI to learn.
Use AI to practice.
Then gradually move from:
“AI, help me do this”
to
“I’m building something with AI”
That shift alone can change your career.
We are not late.
But we cannot afford to be pas
