Wetin be GDP wey dem always dey shout?

You go just hear: “Nigeria GDP grow by 3%”, and you go dey wonder, “wetin concern me?”

GDP simply mean the total value of all the work, business and hustle wey happen for a country within a time.

If e high, dem go say economy dey grow.
If e low, dem go say economy dey slow.

But wait… no be everything GDP dey show.

Make we break am down from tomorrow. E go shock you say Nigeria GDP fit rise, but you still dey suffer.

Follow this page, make we Xplain am together.

> Reason 5: Government hand dey inside too

Some government policies dey affect food price.

Like banning import of rice or other food, but we never produce enough.

Or say dem stop fuel subsidy, and fuel price go up — na transport go suffer, and food price go fly.

If policy no dey balance, we go see am for market price.

> Reason 4: Bad roads + Wahala on the way

Make we no lie, the road wey connect farmers to market bad well.

Sometimes trailer go fall, food go waste.

Then insecurity — kidnappers, bandits — dey make drivers fear.

So them go increase transport money or no go at all.

All these stress go enter price. And who go suffer am?

Na you wey wan buy pepper for ₦200, dem go tell you ₦800.

Middlemen Wahala

> Reason 3: Too many hands dey touch the food

From farm to market, how many people don touch that food?

Farmer go sell to agent.
Agent go sell to wholesaler.
Wholesaler go sell to distributor.
Distributor go sell to retailer.
Retailer go sell to you.

Each of them wan chop small gain. But small gain x 5 people? Na big wahala!

So even if the tomato na ₦100 from farm, e go turn ₦600 before e reach your kitchen.

Middlemen no be bad people, but when e too much, price go climb anyhow.

FOOD JUST DEY COST ANYHOW?

Reason 1: Naira don fall

Naira wey dem dey take buy food from outside don lose value.
Before, 1 dollar fit be ₦500… now e fit reach ₦1,300 or more!

So if bread ingredient na $1 before (₦500), now na ₦1,300.
That same bread go cost more for market.

We go explain why Naira dey fall soon.

But just know say, once naira fall, food price dey climb.

Reason 2: Fuel Wahala

Make we no lie, transport na bloodline of food price.

If farmer harvest yam for Benue, dem go carry am come Lagos.
Fuel cost go affect how much e go reach here.

Before, dem fit use ₦20k fuel. Now e fit be ₦60k.

That extra money go enter food price.

Na why you dey buy the same tomato for double money.

Fuel matter no be beans. Na one big reason why food dey cost!
