BROKEN, BUT NOT FINISHED (CHAPTER ONE)
Lara didn’t cry at first.
She just sat there… frozen.
Her phone was still in her hand, her eyes fixed on the screen like if she kept staring long enough, the words would change.
“I’m sorry… I don’t think this will work anymore.”
That was it.
No long explanation.
No warning.
No “let’s talk.”
Just… an ending.
Her chest tightened slowly.
Like something inside her was being squeezed… little by little.
“After everything?” she whispered.
Her voice sounded strange. Not like her own.
Three years.
Three years of calls, prayers, promises…
Three years of believing she had found her person.
Gone.
Just like that.
She blinked hard, trying not to cry.
“Maybe it’s a joke…” she said quietly.
But deep down, she knew.
This kind of pain doesn’t lie.
The first tear fell before she could stop it.
Then another.
And another.
Until she couldn’t hold it anymore.
Lara bent forward, holding her chest like it might break open.
“Why would you do this to me?” she cried.
Her voice shaking. Her body trembling.
Outside, nothing had changed.
People were still talking.
Someone laughed in the distance.
Life was still moving.
But inside her…
Everything had stopped.
That night, she sat on the floor beside her bed.
The room was quiet. Too quiet.
She pulled her knees close and rested her head on them.
“I’ll be okay…” she whispered.
But her voice was weak.
Uncertain.
Almost like she was trying to convince herself.
Because the truth was…
She wasn’t okay.
She was hurting deeply.
For the first time in a long time, she looked up and said softly,
“God… are You seeing this?”
A tear slipped down her cheek.
“Because I don’t understand…”
But somehow… she kept sitting there.
Like a part of her was still hoping.
Still holding on.
She didn’t know how.
She didn’t know when.
But one thing was certain…This pain had changed her.
And she was now…
Broken.
But not finished.
To be continued…
