In a land faraway, lives a King loved by all.

His ways are known to his subjects

His people can tell what he ate for lunch

He protects his people

And treats his people with dignity

He cares for them and ensure their welfare

He is the leader but a servant to all

Once, he falls sick

The town crier will strike the gong

Informing his subject about his condition

Calling for prayers, well wishes

The whereabout of his treatment is known

Even a two year old knows who pay his bills.

It is not so in my land

The locust have infested our land

The marauders have attacked our crops

The militias have spilled blood over the night

The guards are helpless

Hunger is in the land

Poverty now cheap for less than a penny

Most of the chiefs are greedy

They empty our treasury

Give some largesse to their cronies

They ate and ate until they constipate

The robbers came robbing

To get their fair share of the largesse

Unfortunately, the poor bear the brunt

They part ways with their morsel

Failure to do so will cost them their blood

The guards are helpless

The gatekeepers are timid

The wait has been long

All because 'our' King is absent

No doubt, the productivity and flow of activity and accountability will be hampered if toy have to deal with lateness in your team.

While there are several reasons for people coming late to work, some factors are beyond human control, but most people come late as a result of things they can control themselves or better but, it's the lateness habit they have grown in over time.

Then, does lateness matter to your team?

Yes, it does... We have had people lose deals, precious relationships, high paying or premium clients because there is just one black sheep in the team who has little or no regard for time and promptness.

Now, how do you handle this menace without getting worked up?

1. Create a Culture of Time Management and Punctuality

A team member will thrive and do well when he is under a structure or better put a working culture that enhances productivity. You will do yourself a favor by creating that culture of promptness and time management in your team and ensure that you reaffirm this culture in your team regularly and ensure that you as the team leader believes and be seen as someone who also works the talk of showing up on time.

2. Create A reward system for Punctuality and Penalty for Lateness

While I am an advocate of self development as I believe everyone in a team should work on self to become better at their conduct and attitude to work, however, rewards and penalties are one sure way of keep everyone in check and making sure a good conduct is appreciated and indiscipline is curtailed to the nearest minimum. Team leader should find a way of appreciating the most punctual among the team on a monthly basis and of course, penalize from time to time those who have form an habit of coming late. (late coming habit can be changed).

3. Create an Accountability Structure for Punctuality

I may not have all the time in the world to start chasing latecomers and looking for loopholes to crucify them and I am sure, you do not have that luxury of time.
