The Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) said it has cleared an extra 22 state-owned tertiary institutions to apply for student loans.

The implementation of the student loan scheme is President Bola Tinubuโ€™s flagship project in the education sector.

The statement posted via on X said, โ€œThe Nigeria Education Loan Fund has announced that students from the following 22 state-owned tertiary institutions can now apply for loans on its portal: nelf.gov.ng

โ€œThis followed a review by the committee responsible for the Student Verification System. Prior to this, 86 state-owned institutions were cleared, bringing a total of 108 institutions whose students are now able to apply,โ€ the statement posted via on X said.

The onboarding of the 22 state-owned institutions brings total number of approved state institutions to 108.

The development comes barely one month after the fund was set up by President, Tinubu. The president introduced the fund when he signed the Access to Higher Education Act, which creates a legal framework for granting loans to indigent or low-income Nigerians to facilitate the payment of their fees in Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The law, reenacted earlier this year, created the Nigerian Education Loan Fund.

NELFUND is saddled with the responsibility of handling all loan requests, grants, disbursement, and recovery.

The fund, according to the act, is to be funded from multiple streams and will engage in other productive activities.

The Newly Cleared Institutions Are As Follows:
1. Abia State University, Uturu

*NAME CRAFTING, AS IT MAY AFFECT BOTH YOUNG AND OLD*

*RE: PARENTS ATTENTION*

The Governor-elect of Bayelsa State was sacked by the Nigeria Supreme Court, because of irregularities in his names as they appeared on his certificates and affidavits.
This is an avoidable mistake.

*To avoid such thing, you need to note this.*

By *SS3*, it is expected that every students should have perfected their three names' identification on all documents and mastered how it should appear.

Educators & Parents Should Take note that *National recognition* of *names order* on official documents begins with their *O'Level certificates* (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB & GCE).

*STUDENTS AND TEENAGERS SHOULD BE PROPERLY GUIDED ON NAMES UNIFORMITY.*
Let them know that what they registered in O'Level exams is what they should start having across all documents of identification thereafter.

*In cases of change of names,* teach them that they will have to get a *court affidavit* followed by NEWSPAPER PUBLICATIONS *(they should buy the original newspaper and make photocopies, which is their reciept).*

Also take note that the moment they register for the National Identity Card *(NIN)*, They *CANNOT* change their names any longer.
So, Name Crafting is very essential. Infact how their names appeared on their Jamb UTME Registration is what they will carry all through school and that is what they will have on their certificates throughout their entire lives. So, don't joke with their *name crafting* again.

Your NIN, BVN, VOTERS CARD, INTL PASSPORT, DRIVER'S LICENSE and every other official documents should reflect this too.

*WHAT TO DO AS A PARENT*

Sit down with your Pre-teen or Teenager, agree on the three names they want to bear for the rest of their lives, help them identify *last Name, First Name & Middle Name*, teach them the order.

Then let them learn & master how to write it accordingly.

I am an Essential Knowledge Educator, and I believe knowledge is light. My job is to shed more lights on some of those grey areas.

*PLS TAKE NOTE AND PASS THIS PIECE UNTO OTHERS.

The articles "a" and "an" are indefinite articles used before a noun, noun phrase or adjective.

To many people, knowing when to use "a" or "an" has been a problem.

Some say that "a" is used before a word that starts with a consonant letter while "an" is used before a word that starts with a vowel letter.

However, it might interest you to know that the above explanation is incorrect.

Why?

When deciding on where to use the articles, we focus on the ๐™ฅ๐™ง๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™ž๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ, not on the ๐’”๐’‘๐’†๐’๐’๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ.

Here's the truth:

We use "a" before a word that starts with ๐—ฎ ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ while we use "an" before a word that starts with ๐—ฎ ๐˜ƒ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—น ๐˜€๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ.

๐Ÿ“Œ "A"

A cap

A man

A book

A University

A ewe

A European country.

Are you surprised at the last three words? Don't be!

Even though "University," "Ewe" and "European" all start with vowel letters, the first sound heard in the words is "y" which is a consonant.

University /juหnษชหˆvษœหsษ™ti/

Ewe /juห/

European /jสŠษ™rษ™หˆpiหษ™n/

All three words start with the consonant sound /j/ which is the sound for the letter "y."

๐Ÿ“Œ "AN"

An egg

An ink

An umbrella

An honest man

An hour

An MTN staff.

Are you surprised at the last three words? Don't be!

Even though "Hour" and "Honest" start with a constant letter "h", the " h" is silent which makes a vowel sound the first sound heard in both words.

For "MTN staff," when you say the letter "M", the first thing you hear is the vowel sound /e/ in " em".

I hope this helps

OGUN BANS STUDENT'S FROM BRINGING PHONES TO SCHOOL'S โ€ฆ CHARGES TEACHER FOR PROPER MONITORING

The Ogun state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology has announced that students are not allowed to bring phones to school anymore, calling on teachersโ€™ to monitor them to ensure that they donโ€™t bring phones to classes.

Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu stated this at a press briefing held at ministry conference room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Tuesday.

The Commissioner explained that the advantage of phones cannot be underestimated especially in this time of serious security issues.

Prof. Arigbabu said the reasons students are advised not to bring their phones into school is because phones serve students differently but mostly to disadvantage.

He said: โ€œOn the issue of phone in school, what we ordinarily advised is that it will actually distract the students. Teachers will be teaching them and some people will be looking at phones and going to different sites to do nonsense.

โ€œThat is why it is actually not encouraged for students to bring phone to class. If they have phones, they can actually put it in their bags and at the close of the day, they can bring it out.โ€

He added: โ€œBut how do we know they donโ€™t bring it out. That is why teachers need monitor them to ensure that they donโ€™t bring phones to classes.

โ€œPhone has its advantages and disadvantages. For instance, if a student is having problem, he/she can make a distress call. But what we are saying is that we wonโ€™t allow a student to bring phone to the class to distract you from listening to lessons.

โ€œThat is the way we want to deal with phones in school.โ€

TRUE STORY

I was at my place of work today when a female student in my school came to me and said, 'Mr. Sodiq, I love your outfit. You look smart and handsome.' I replied with 'Thank you' and walked away to avoid further compliments. Her supposed kind gestures reminded me of what happened to a female classmate of mine when I was in SS2.
Tife was someone I admired. Besides being beautiful, she was intelligent and very outspoken. We were both in the same school and the same class, but our relationship was like that of a cat and a rat. We rarely got along. When we were promoted to SS2, something terrible happened. A male teacher was employed to teach us maths. Truth be told, he was handsome and good looking. He was young as well. Three weeks after his appointment, some female students had started going to his office to have a tete-a-tete with him. Some of them claimed they went to him for more explanation. Some months later, I started seeing some of my female classmates in his apartment, which was not far from my house. All this while, Tife was not close to him, and I was happy the lady I admired singled herself out. Tife had a bright future. She was always on top of my class while others like me trailed behind.
After a brief vacation, we resumed for the third term in SS2. Tife did not resume with us. I began to wonder what happened. None of us in her class, including her best friends, knew her whereabouts. The second week, we all went to her house, but we were told she travelled by her parents. Two weeks later, the young, male teacher who was teaching us maths, stopped coming to school as well. When I ran across him in my street, I asked why he stopped coming to our school, and he told me he got a good offer from another school. I wished him well and we parted ways.

It was not until after we had written our WAEC I saw Tife again. I saw her with a child, who should be around two years of age. Immediately she saw me, she ran inside her father's house. I ran after her. When I got to her house and asked about her, her parents told me she was not around. It was then I became more curious. I later met a close friend of hers who told me what went wrong with her. I learnt she was in a secret relationship with the young man who taught us mathematics in SS2. She got pregnant along the way. The school sacked the teacher for misconduct, and because of shame, Tife had to go to her parents' village to tend to her pregnancy as her parents refused to let her abort it.
A few years later, after I graduated from a college of education, I saw Tife again. Nothing had changed. She had a second child for the same teacher and they both lived in a room apartment with their children. I asked her if she would still like to go further in her education. She said,'' Sodiq, what education again? My children are there. They are my future. They will read the books I was not opportune to read. They will...''

The rest is a story for another day.......

I am appealing to all male teachers, those who teach at secondary school levels. Please, do not take advantage of these teenagers. Do not disrupt their dreams and lives all because you cannot control yourself. Be professional in your dealings with these young ones. They may appear as if they knew a lot, they know nothing. They just have rapid growth, they are still kids, and all they need is your guidance. Do not take advantage of them. You may ruin their lives and dreams by taking advantage of their naivety. I know some of them may even initiate it, but, please, shun anything that may lead you to have canal knowledge of these girls. Protect your dignity, protect your profession, protect another female child from losing her dreams because of your whims.
Shalom!
