*Capacity-Building Training for School Librarians Holds in Ogun**
Budding Leaders Empowerment, in collaboration with the Nimbe Adedipe Library of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, on April 30, 2026, organised a capacity-building training for school librarians and teacher-librarians in Ogun State.
Speaking at the event, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi, stressed the importance of functional school libraries in promoting a strong reading culture among pupils. He urged schools to integrate reading periods into their timetables and ensure libraries are properly maintained.
The facilitator, Mr. Omotosho, trained participants on key library operations, including cataloguing and acquisition processes, as well as strategies for sourcing library materials. Mr. Ogunlana also introduced participants to relevant electronic resources that can enhance teaching and learning.
The Executive Director of Budding Leaders Empowerment, Professor Mrs. Iyabode Kehinde, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening literacy and supporting school library development across Nigeria.
Over 100 school librarians and teacher-librarians attended the training. One of the participants, Mrs. Yemisi Ojo, said the programme exposed her to the true meaning of a school library and equipped her with practical skills to promote reading culture among pupils.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Adenekan appreciated the partnership between the NGO and the Nimbe Adedipe Library, noting that such collaboration would contribute to building a better future for Nigerian youths.

Nimbe Adedipe Library Receives 28 New Computers and 10 Photocopy Machines
This is to bring to our notice that the University Library has acquired 28 brand new HP computers and 10 photocopy machines for the use of the library.
The computers were procured through the TETFund intervention, and the University Librarian expressed great delight at this significant development. He noted that the three-in-one computer systems have already been deployed for immediate use to enhance service delivery within the library.
The University Librarian further reiterated his commitment to making Nimbe Adedipe Library one of the best in the country through continuous improvement in facilities and services.
In addition, the University Librarian held a meeting yesterday with officials from GLO to explore ways of providing dedicated internet services for the library, aimed at improving access to digital resources and ensuring seamless connectivity for staff and users.

Nimbe Adedipe Library Organises Medical Check-Up for Staff
The Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has organised a medical check-up programme for its staff. The exercise is scheduled to hold on Monday, April 14, 2026, in collaboration with a medical research team sponsored by TETFund. The programme will commence at 8:00 a.m.
Speaking on the initiative, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi, emphasised that “health is wealth,” noting the importance of staff being aware of their medical conditions in order to take appropriate health decisions. He further explained that his interest in organising the programme was influenced by his academic background, having completed his PhD in Medical Informatics. According to him, medical errors remain a significant challenge, particularly in developing countries such as Nigeria, and increased awareness through regular health checks is essential.
Professor Abayomi added that various medical tests will be conducted and necessary medications provided free of charge to staff. He expressed his long-standing desire to implement such an initiative, drawing from his experiences during his doctoral research.
In her remarks, the Welfare Chairperson of the library, Mrs Deborah Ologun, commended the University Librarian for the initiative, describing it as a laudable effort and possibly the first of its kind in university libraries across Nigeria.
The University Librarian also extended his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Kehinde, the Director of the University Health Centre, Dr Seyi Ajorin, and TETFund for their support and sponsorship of the medical research team that will carry out the exercise.

Nimbe Adedipe Library Upgrades Facilities with Installation of Smart Televisions
In a strategic move to enhance service delivery and align with global best practices, the Management of Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has approved the installation of smart televisions in key units across the library.
This initiative is aimed at improving operational efficiency, staff productivity, and digital service delivery within the library system.
The Cataloguing Unit will benefit from the use of smart televisions for real-time access to cataloguing standards, training resources, and online bibliographic tools, thereby ensuring accuracy and consistency in processing library materials.
In the Automation Unit, the smart televisions will support the monitoring of library management systems, display system updates, and facilitate staff training on emerging digital technologies and electronic resources.
The Office of Dr. Mrs. Akintola (College Libraries) will utilize the facility for virtual meetings, professional engagements, and effective coordination of college library activities, thereby strengthening administrative efficiency.
Similarly, the University Librarian’s Conference Room will leverage the smart televisions for presentations, video conferencing, staff training programmes, and strategic planning sessions, enhancing communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
The installation of these smart technologies underscores the library’s commitment to innovation, continuous improvement, and the provision of modern, technology-driven services to support teaching, learning, and research within the University community.

Nimbe Adedipe Library Celebrates Professor Fedrick Olatunji Ajegbomogun
History was made at the Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, as staff and well-wishers gathered to celebrate Professor Fedrick Olatunji Ajegbomogun, a distinguished scholar and two-time University Librarian.
Professor Ajegbomogun, who recently transferred his services to Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji-Arakeji, Osun State, previously served as the University Librarian of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Ondo State.
In his welcome address, the University Librarian described Professor Ajegbomogun as a born leader with a kind heart, noting that he has helped secure employment opportunities for many and has mentored numerous professionals in the field of librarianship.
In another remark, Dr Bose Akintola emphasized that Professor Ajegbomogun is a shining example worthy of emulation. She described him as a great scholar and a hardworking professional whose contributions to the library system remain outstanding.
In his response, Professor Ajegbomogun reflected on his humble beginnings as a junior staff member at the University of Ibadan. He expressed gratitude to God for his journey to becoming a Professor. He highlighted some of his key achievements at Olusegun Agagu University, including relocating the library to a purpose-built facility and securing over 40,000 volumes of books for the University Library.
He further noted that he has replicated similar achievements at Joseph Ayo Babalola University. He encouraged librarians to take their profession seriously and to learn from experienced colleagues in order to grow and excel in their careers.
Highlights of the event included cultural dancing, presentation of awards by the University Librarian to the Utility Staff of the Year, Mr. Adeola Adekunle, and the Team Leader of the Year, Mrs. Ologunlowa. Other activities included prayers for the celebrant and his family, as well as the presentation of gifts.
In her closing remarks, the Chairperson of the Nimbe Adedipe Library Welfare Committee thanked God Almighty for the successful celebration and expressed appreciation to all staff for their support and contributions to the event.

*FUNAAB’s Nimbe Adedipe Library Among Nigeria’s Best – VC*

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, has described the University as home to one of Nigeria’s most outstanding library systems.

Prof. Kehinde made the remarks today, March 11, 2026, during activities commemorating World Book Day at the University, emphasising the vital role of libraries in advancing teaching, learning and research.

The celebration featured the 2026 Annual Book Exhibition organised by the University’s Nimbe Adedipe Library, showcasing newly acquired books, academic journals and digital learning resources. The exhibition, which commenced at the College of Plant Science and Crop Production (COLPLANT), demonstrated the University’s commitment to strengthening academic scholarship through expanded access to knowledge resources.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the University’s sustained investment in library infrastructure, describing the library system as a critical pillar of academic excellence. According to him, increased funding, the acquisition of modern learning materials, and the expansion of both digital and physical collections have positioned the Nimbe Adedipe Library to support innovative teaching and high-impact research.

Prof. Kehinde also encouraged greater use of the College libraries across the University, advising students to reduce excessive smartphone use, which he noted could contribute to declining reading habits.

He further called on the University Librarian and College Deans to ensure that both students and academic staff fully benefit from the institution’s investments through effective management, improved access and active utilisation of library resources.

The Vice-Chancellor urged students to cultivate stronger reading habits, while encouraging lecturers to integrate library resources more actively into their teaching, stressing that engagement with scholarly materials was essential for academic development.

Earlier, the University Librarian, Prof. Abayomi Owolabi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining a world-class library system. He noted that the Library regularly acquires new books, resources and information materials to meet the evolving needs of the University Community.

Prof. Owolabi expressed confidence that the continued expansion of library resources would significantly enhance research productivity while fostering a culture of lifelong learning at FUNAAB.

A major highlight of the event was the ceremonial ribbon-cutting by the Vice-Chancellor to officially declare the Book Exhibition open. Dignitaries present at the event included the former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ololade Enikuomehin; Dean of the College of Agricultural Management and Rural Development (COLAMRUD), Prof. Emmanuel Fakoya; Dean of the College of Engineering (COLENG), Prof. Adedayo Badejo; Dean of the College of Physical Sciences (COLPHYS), Prof. Victor Makinde; and Dean of COLPLANT, Prof. Bolarinwa Senjobi, among others.

During my official visit to the Library of the University of Lagos, I had the opportunity to observe the impressive facilities, rich collections, and the level of professionalism demonstrated by the library staff. The visit provided a valuable platform to appreciate the role of academic libraries in supporting teaching, learning, and research within the university system.
I was particularly impressed by the organization of the collections, the conducive reading environment, and the effective use of modern library technologies to enhance access to information resources. The dedication of the library management and staff toward maintaining high standards of service delivery is commendable.
The visit also created an avenue for meaningful discussions on collaboration, best practices in library administration, and strategies for improving library services in our institutions. Such engagements are very important as they strengthen professional relationships and promote the advancement of library and information services in Nigeria.
I sincerely appreciate the warm reception and hospitality extended to us by the management and staff of the University of Lagos Library.

Dear Esteemed Members of Staff,
As we joyfully step into the year 2026, I warmly greet you all and sincerely thank God Almighty for His mercy and grace in preserving our lives to witness this New Year. Indeed, it is not by our power or might, but by His divine favour that we are alive, healthy, and hopeful.
I wish to specially appreciate every member of staff of the Nimbe Adedipe Library for your dedication, resilience, and sacrifices throughout the past year. Your collective efforts, commitment, and sense of responsibility have continued to move our Library forward and position it as a centre of excellence within and beyond the University community. Your contributions, whether visible or behind the scenes, are deeply valued and sincerely acknowledged.
As we begin this New Year, I encourage us all to keep the Nimbe Adedipe Library at heart in all that we do. Let us remain more committed to our duties, demonstrate positive attitudes to our work, and uphold professionalism, integrity, teamwork, and service excellence. Together, we can achieve even greater heights and make our Library a pride of the University.
