UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN, PROFESSOR OWOLABI ABAYOMI, PRESENTS PAPER ON INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY AND UNIVERSITY RANKING
The University Librarian, Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Professor Owolabi Abayomi, has presented a paper on “Institutional Repository and University Ranking” at a programme organised by the Department of Academic Planning of the University.
In his presentation, Professor Owolabi Abayomi emphasised the strategic importance of Institutional Repositories (IR) in enhancing the visibility, accessibility and global recognition of the University's academic and research outputs.
He explained that an effective Institutional Repository provides a platform for preserving and disseminating the intellectual output of the University, including journal articles, theses, dissertations, conference papers, technical reports and other scholarly works.
The University Librarian highlighted the importance of Institutional Repository, which includes increasing the visibility and global exposure of the University's research output, improving accessibility to scholarly publications, enhancing citation and research impact, preserving the University's intellectual heritage, promoting open access to knowledge, strengthening the University's web presence and contributing to improved institutional reputation and university ranking.
Professor Owolabi further noted that the availability and visibility of quality research outputs online are increasingly important in determining how universities are perceived nationally and internationally. He therefore encouraged academic staff and researchers to make their scholarly publications and other research outputs available through the University's Institutional Repository.
He stressed that the continuous development and effective management of the Institutional Repository require the collective support of academic staff, researchers, the Library and other relevant units of the University.
The programme, organised by the Department of Academic Planning, provided participants with valuable insights into the relationship between Institutional Repositories, research visibility, scholarly communication and university ranking.
Professor Owolabi reaffirmed the commitment of Nimbe Adedipe Library to supporting research, promoting open access, preserving the University's intellectual heritage and enhancing the visibility and global impact of research produced by the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Nimbe Adedipe Library Trains Non-Teaching Staff on Digital Skills and Artificial Intelligence

The Nimbe Adedipe Library, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has organised an in-house training programme for its non-teaching staff as part of efforts to enhance their professional competence and equip them with relevant digital, research, and emerging technological skills.

The training focused on improving the participants' ability to utilise modern digital tools and technologies effectively in the discharge of their official responsibilities and in supporting the delivery of quality library services.

One of the major areas covered during the programme was access to free online digital courses that offer certificates upon completion. Participants were introduced to opportunities for continuous professional development through various online learning platforms, enabling them to acquire new knowledge and skills without necessarily incurring financial costs.

The training also featured practical sessions on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support research, learning, and professional activities. Participants were introduced to the potential applications of AI in searching for information, generating research ideas, organising information, improving academic writing, and supporting other research-related activities.

Among the AI and research tools discussed were ChatGPT, Claude, and Semantic Search tools. Participants were guided on the appropriate use of these technologies for information retrieval, research, learning, and other academic and professional purposes. Emphasis was also placed on the responsible and critical use of AI, particularly the importance of verifying and validating information obtained from AI platforms before using them for academic, research, or professional purposes.

The resource person for the training was Mrs Tawa Ayelotan from the FUNAAB Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, who provided practical guidance on digital learning opportunities, Artificial Intelligence tools, and modern approaches to information searching and research.

The training was described as timely and highly beneficial, as it exposed members of the non-teaching staff to contemporary digital learning opportunities, Artificial Intelligence, and modern approaches to information searching and research. The knowledge and skills acquired are expected to enhance staff capacity, promote continuous professional development, and contribute to improved service delivery to members of the University community and other library users.

The participants expressed their sincere appreciation to the University Management for providing an enabling environment and supporting initiatives aimed at staff development. They also thanked the FUNAAB ICT Unit for facilitating the training and making the resource person available. The participants expressed optimism that the knowledge and skills acquired during the programme would be effectively applied in their respective duties and contribute to improved service delivery in the Library.

NIMBE ADEDIPE LIBRARY HOSTS FOUNDER OF ABDULFATTAH DUROJAIYE UNIVERSITY, ABEOKUTA (ADUA)
The Nimbe Adedipe Library (NAL), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), recently hosted the Founder and Proprietor of Abdulfattah Durojaiye University, Abeokuta (ADUA), Dr. Abdulfattah Durojaiye, following the institution's selection and licensing by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The visit, which was aimed at fostering collaboration and seeking guidance on the development of the newly established university library, provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of mutual cooperation in library and information services.
In his welcome address, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi, warmly received Dr. Durojaiye and members of his entourage. He expressed delight at the establishment of the new university and congratulated the founder on the achievement. Professor Abayomi gave a brief history of the Nimbe Adedipe Library, highlighting its growth over the years into one of the leading academic libraries in Nigeria.
The University Librarian noted that the library has embraced numerous Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools and innovations in the delivery of information services. He explained that the library currently operates modern library systems and digital platforms that enable efficient access to scholarly resources and support teaching, learning, research, and community engagement—the three core mandates of the University.
Professor Abayomi further emphasized that the Nimbe Adedipe Library has continued to play a strategic role in enhancing academic excellence through the provision of quality information resources, electronic databases, institutional repository services, digital learning facilities, and user-centered library services. He added that the library remains committed to innovation and best practices in academic librarianship.
Speaking on the purpose of the visit, Professor Abayomi assured the founder of ADUA that the Nimbe Adedipe Library is willing and ready to mentor, guide, and support the newly licensed university in the establishment and development of a functional, modern, and globally competitive university library. According to him, NAL will provide professional support and share its wealth of experience in library administration, automation, collection development, staff capacity building, and ICT-driven library services.
In his response, Dr. Abdulfattah Durojaiye expressed profound appreciation to the University Librarian and the management of the library for the warm reception accorded to him and his team. He commended Professor Abayomi for his visionary leadership and the remarkable transformation that has taken place in the Nimbe Adedipe Library.
Dr. Durojaiye stated that he was highly impressed by the facilities, resources, and technological innovations available in the library, noting that the library compares favourably with many university libraries in developed countries. He remarked that the level of automation, organization, and service delivery demonstrated by the library reflects international best practices.
The founder reiterated his commitment to partnering with the Nimbe Adedipe Library in the development of the Abdulfattah Durojaiye University Library. He expressed confidence that such collaboration would contribute significantly to the growth of the institution and the realization of its vision of becoming a centre of excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
Dr. Durojaiye was accompanied on the visit by the Global President of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta Alumni Association, Otunba Bolaji Gbadamosi, as well as other members of the management team of Abdulfattah Durojaiye University.
The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the various sections of the library, during which the visitors were exposed to the library's state-of-the-art facilities, digital infrastructure, and service points. The event also featured the presentation of souvenirs and gifts by Professor Owolabi Kehinde Abayomi to the management team of Abdulfattah Durojaiye University as a symbol of goodwill and the beginning of a mutually beneficial partnership.

NIMBE ADEDIPE LIBRARY HOSTS OWOLABI UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT FOR WORKING VISIT AND LIBRARY DEVELOPMENT MENTORSHIP
Owolabi University seeks NAL’s expertise in building a world-class university library
There is a common saying that whatever your hands find to do, you should do it very well. This aptly describes the remarkable strides of the Nimbe Adedipe Library (NAL), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), which has increasingly become a model and destination of choice for universities and other institutions seeking to develop world-class library services.
In further recognition of its excellence and professional standards, the Management of Owolabi University, Osogbo, paid a working visit to Nimbe Adedipe Library on Thursday to understudy its operations, facilities, services and technological innovations, with a view to establishing and developing a strong university library for the institution.
The Owolabi University delegation was led by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Samuel Adedotun, and included the Director of Academic Planning, Prof. James Agbolade, and the Bursar, Mr. Festus Oladokun.
In his welcome address, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Abayomi Kehinde, warmly welcomed the delegation to Nimbe Adedipe Library and expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in the library by the visiting university.
The University Librarian explained that Nimbe Adedipe Library has established itself as one of the leading university libraries in Nigeria through its commitment to quality service delivery, innovation, technology-driven library services and professional excellence. He noted that the library has also contributed significantly to the development of librarianship in Nigeria, with several of its former staff members rising to become University Librarians in different universities across the country, while many others have attained professorial positions.
Professor Owolabi further highlighted the library’s commitment to providing adequate, prompt and convenient access to relevant information resources for its users. He explained that users can access many of the library’s electronic resources and services remotely through their mobile phones and other digital devices, thereby making information available beyond the physical walls of the library.
He also pointed out that various modern technologies have been deployed in the library to support teaching, learning and research, as well as to enhance the overall user experience.
The University Librarian informed the delegation that Nimbe Adedipe Library had recently received officials from the Federal Ministry of Education for discussions on possible collaboration, particularly in strengthening library services in Unity Schools across the South-West region of Nigeria.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Owolabi University, Dr. Samuel Adedotun, expressed his admiration for the facilities, services and commitment of the staff of Nimbe Adedipe Library. He stated that the visit had exposed the delegation to valuable ideas that could guide the development of the university’s library.
Dr. Adedotun disclosed that Owolabi University was prepared to learn from Nimbe Adedipe Library as part of its determination to build a world-class university. He explained that the institution had engaged a consultant to recommend a university library that could provide mentorship and guidance in the establishment and development of its library, and Nimbe Adedipe Library was recommended because of its reputation and outstanding achievements.
The visiting team subsequently toured the various sections and units of Nimbe Adedipe Library, where they had the opportunity to observe the facilities, technologies, collections and services available to users.
At the end of the visit, the University Librarian presented a gift to the delegation as a token of appreciation and friendship. The visit concluded with a closing meeting, during which both institutions expressed their commitment to continued collaboration, knowledge sharing and professional mentorship.
The visit further underscores the growing recognition of Nimbe Adedipe Library as a centre of excellence in university librarianship and a model for institutions seeking to establish efficient, innovative and technology-driven library services.

*FUNAAB Receives NUC Approval for Six New Academic Programmes*

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence six new Undergraduate Academic Programmes on a full-time basis with effect from the *2026/2027 Academic Session.*

The approval followed a successful Resource Assessment Visit conducted by the Commission to ascertain the University's preparedness and availability of requisite human and material resources for the proposed programmes.

In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, the Executive Secretary of the NUC conveyed the Commission's approval for the establishment of the programmes after a thorough consideration of the outcome of the resource assessment exercise.

The newly approved programmes are:

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Geophysics

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Public Health

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Biotechnology

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Science Laboratory Technology

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

- Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Clothing and Textile

The approval marks another significant milestone in FUNAAB's commitment to expanding academic offerings, enhancing manpower development, and responding to emerging national and global needs in science, technology, health, and sustainable development.

This achievement is a testament to their dedication, commitment to scholarship, excellence in research, and invaluable contributions to librarianship, academia, and national development.

REGISTRAR PAYS OFFICIAL VISIT TO NIMBE ADEDIPE LIBRARY

The Registrar of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Dr. Titus Adedeji Adeniyi, paid an official visit to the Nimbe Adedipe Library. He was warmly received by the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Abayomi, who conducted him on a tour of the Library's facilities.

During the visit, the University Librarian briefed the Registrar on the history of the Library, its development over the years, and the various services it provides to staff, students, and researchers.

The Registrar expressed his admiration for the modern facilities and technologies available in the Library, including the Bookeye Digital Scanning Machine, RFID technology, and other state-of-the-art equipment that support effective information service delivery. He was also impressed by the various spaces within the Library that can be utilized for meetings, training programmes, conferences, and other academic activities.

Dr. Adeniyi stated that he would encourage members of the Registry to take advantage of the Library's facilities by organizing training programmes and conferences within the Library environment. He further noted that Registry units would make use of the Bookeye Digital Scanning Machine to facilitate the digitization and preservation of official records.

As part of the visit, the Registrar held an interactive session with members of staff of the Library. During the meeting, he delivered an insightful lecture on work ethics, professionalism, and conflict resolution in the workplace. He emphasized the importance of integrity, mutual respect, effective communication, teamwork, and adherence to institutional regulations in promoting a healthy and productive work environment. He also encouraged staff to adopt peaceful and constructive approaches to resolving conflicts in order to enhance harmony and efficiency in thew discharge of their duties.

Speaking on behalf of the Library Management, Mr. Omotosho expressed appreciation to the Registrar for the visit, the valuable lecture, and his keen interest in the advancement of the Library.

The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a gift to the Registrar in recognition of his support and commitment to the development of the University.

Chairman of Unity Schools Visits Nimbe Adedipe Library
The Chairman of the Federal Unity Schools in Nigeria, Mr. Oriade, paid a courtesy visit to the Nimbe Adedipe Library (NAL), Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, in preparation for the forthcoming Annual Conference of Unity Schools scheduled to hold later this month.
During the visit, Mr. Oriade commended the Nimbe Adedipe Library for its outstanding contributions to academic excellence and described it as one of the leading university libraries in Nigeria. He expressed satisfaction with the serene and well-maintained environment of the library, as well as its impressive adoption of modern information and communication technologies in library service delivery.
According to him, the purpose of the visit was to explore areas of collaboration and seek professional guidance on how the Nimbe Adedipe Library can assist in repositioning and revitalizing libraries within Unity Schools across the South-West region of Nigeria. He noted that school libraries play a critical role in promoting reading culture, academic excellence, and lifelong learning among students.
In his remarks, the University Librarian, Professor Owolabi Abayomi, expressed his delight at hosting the delegation and revealed his long-standing connection with the Unity School system. He recalled that he began his professional career at the famous Federal Government Girls’ College, Sagamu, under the mentorship and tutelage of Mrs. M. B. Abolade, a highly disciplined and visionary principal.
Professor Owolabi used the opportunity to appreciate Mrs. M. B. Abolade and Mrs. Uler Ajayi for their invaluable contributions to his professional development during the formative years of his career. He stated that the values of discipline, diligence, and commitment to excellence instilled in him by these distinguished educators continue to guide his leadership style and professional engagements.
The University Librarian further emphasized that one of his cardinal objectives as the head of the Nimbe Adedipe Library is to promote reading culture among young people and encourage effective utilization of library resources. He assured the delegation that the library is fully prepared to partner with the Directorate of Unity Schools to strengthen school library services, build staff capacity, and introduce innovative library technologies that will enhance learning outcomes among students.
As part of the engagement, Professor Owolabi introduced Dr. Bose Akintola, an alumnus of Federal Government College, Odogbolu, who shared insights on the importance of maintaining strong relationships among Unity School alumni and supporting educational development initiatives.
The visit also provided an opportunity for discussions on future collaborations between the Nimbe Adedipe Library and Unity Schools in the areas of library automation, information literacy, reading promotion programmes, and professional training for school librarians.
