Some weeks ago I noticed something. There's a particular exact figure of views I was getting from the Icon Pillar consult page on Facebook. At first I was excited about the fact that some people were viewing my business page especially because I rarely post there. Later I became suspicious, every day for almost a month, Facebook would give me an update....the same figure of views every single day! I started thinking 🤔"are some people monitoring my page for my next move?"....."abi 🤷♀️is it a destiny helper from somewhere that wants to know how serious I am?"....or perhaps,I have school owners on my case again....(every year, some school owners brain pick my ideas for summer holidays). After a while I stopped thinking, even though I was getting the same number of views...no more,no less every single day!
I gave myself rest in my mind, one thing I know is that "the Icon Pillar Educational Consult is solid"....I still consult for schools that find our services valuable, our charges are reasonable,if there's any school owner who needs new ideas to run their businesses we are much available. Also, destiny helpers would do so much more than studying from a distance,it would be better to reach out directly and do on site findings. And as for monitors... I'm not bothered at all. A business is an entity on its own, separate from my personal journey. I am going through different phases of life....and sometimes its so deep that my growth is silent. I have grown to the level that makes external validation useless! I remain solid! growing.... becoming and that is all that matters to me.
Happy Sunday 💃💃
much love 💖
Omowunmi.
I applied to a school some weeks ago.
The head teacher told me I would be handling Pry 2— 40 pupils and 15subjects.
Then she asked for my salary expectation.
I said ₦90,000.
She looked shocked and said, “That’s way beyond what schools around here pay teachers.”
She said they pay ₦30,000.
₦30,000.
For teaching children.
For managing 40 different minds with different attitudes, strengths, weaknesses, and emotions.
For writing lesson notes.
For marking scripts till midnight.
For standing for hours every single day.
For being a class teacher, subject teacher, counselor, nurse, disciplinarian, and sometimes even a parent.
₦30,000?
I negotiated down to ₦60,000 because I genuinely needed the job.
They later increased it to ₦40,000.
But when I sat down and truly looked at the workload… I declined, because ds #40, 000 also includes lesson fees and the school closes by four
Because honestly, how did we get to the point where teachers are expected to do the work of 5 people and still struggle to survive?
People say, “Teaching is a noble profession.”
But in Nigeria, many teachers are treated like they don’t deserve a decent life.
A TRCN-qualified graduate should not be paid ₦40k to teach 15subjects.
These same teachers raise doctors, lawyers, engineers, presidents, entrepreneurs…
Yet many can barely afford transport fare, rent, or three decent meals.
And society keeps asking: “Why are teachers no longer passionate?”
Passion does not pay bills.
Passion does not feed families.
Passion does not cure burnout.
The truth is: A lot of teachers are not lazy.
They are exhausted.
Overworked.
Mentally drained.
Undervalued.
And painfully underpaid.
Teaching should never feel like punishment.
If we continue to frustrate teachers like this, one day we will wake up and discover that the people left in classrooms are not there because they love teaching… …but because they had no other option.
And that should scare all of us.

A MUST READ
Some schools today are often set up in a way where most students' misbehaviours go unchecked.
It’s a nightmare for teachers!
As a teacher, my eyes have seen a lot
But the ones who truly suffer are the students who actually want to learn.
Many teachers now walk on eggshells...
They can’t correct, can’t discipline, can’t even frown too long without being tagged “wıcked” or “insensıtive.”
They sometimes get a query for scolding a child for ill behaviour.
Did you know that some Proprietors, proprietresses, principals and vice principals support the students instead of the truth.
Only few still uphold what is good and just
Some Private schools are afraid to lose customers, so they sacrifice discipline for enrolment.
In public schools, teachers are on their own. There was a male elderly teacher in public school that was reportedly beaten up by students which later led to his demise.
And in the middle of all that chaos, we expect teachers to perform magic!
To teach, to control, to motivate, to babysit, to mediate, to parent, and still meet the lesson notes deadline. On top of that, they're overloaded!
Meanwhile, the students who truly want to learn are left frustrated. They watch the unserious ones disrupt the class, waste the teacher’s time, and get away with it.
The truth is, when a teacher loses the influence to ensure discipline, education loses its power to transform.
Parents MUST raise responsible children.
Schools must protect teachers who uphold order.
And the government MUST stop playing politics with discipline policies.
Because education without discipline is like a car without brakes. It might move fast, but one day, it’ll crash.
Better men.
Better lives.
Better nations
