How to Help Kids Stop Mixing Up b and d

One of the most common challenges young readers face is confusing the letters b and d. Since both letters look similar but face in opposite directions, many children reverse them when reading or writing. This is normal in the early stages of learning, but with guidance and practice, kids can overcome this difficulty.

• Both are mirror images of each other.
• Children are still developing visual memory and directional awareness (left vs. right).

Ask your child to make a “thumbs up” with both hands.
• The left hand makes a lowercase b shape.
