Dear School Owners,

After Reading This, You Will Agree With Me That 98% Of Schools In Nigeria Don't Practice QUALITY EDUCATION.

The Educational 3Hs.

1. H - HEAD (COGNITIVE )

2. H - HEART (CHARACTER) also called the Affective Domain

3. H - HAND (SKILL) also called Psychomotor Domain.

These are also called LEARNING DOMAIN but my emphasis will be on AFFECTIVE AND PSYCHOMOTOR

The foundation of CHARACTER BUILDING is from age 0-6. Once a child exceeds this age it's difficult to build.

This is were the AFFECTIVE DOMAIN comes in, Schools are doing more of COGNITIVE DOMAIN with little or no effort of BUILDING CHARACTER.

I propose that from age 0-6 should be taught more of CHARACTER. i.e, 60% Of CHARACTER, 35% Of COGNITIVE and 5% Of PSYCHOMOTOR

Cognitive Domain will only develop their mental skills making them EMPLOYEES but not EMPLOYERS.

This is the reason I'm urging every SCHOOL to engage in the PSYCHOMOTOR DOMAIN which aimed at SKILLS and the ability to coordinate them. This will make them EMPLOYERS.

Note: Any school that is not applying 3Hs Education is not practicing QUALITY EDUCATION.

ADVANTAGES OF 3Hs EDUCATION

1. Cognitive Domain will produce Leaders With Sound Mental Development Skills
2. Affective Domain will produce Leaders with Character
3. Psychomotor Domain will help eradicate majority of unemployment

These Children are the leaders of tomorrow.

HOW TO PRESERVE YOUR SCHOOL EVEN IF ALL YOUR STAFF QUIT (1).

Grace stopped in her tracks the moment she spotted Ijeoma in the doctor’s waiting room.
Ijeoma was the picture of dejection and misery.

‘Not that school again!’ Grace muttered as she walked over to her friend.
‘You’re in the doctor’s office AGAIN, IJ. What’s happening to your school this time?’

Ijeoma sighed, ‘I lost 3 more teachers’.

‘Oh, God!’

During the Christmas holiday, four teachers left Ijeoma’s school.
Now, three more walked out.
To make matters worse one of the last three was the Head Teacher of the primary section.

Ijeoma went on to tell Grace why she was so bothered.

1. This was not the first time she had experienced this. It was beginning to seem like a yearly rite of passage.

2. Her seven-year-old school was only beginning to find its footing. Losing teachers at such sensitive times wasn’t good news.

3. Classroom teachers have the strongest influence on students’ educational outcomes. Short and long-term academic and non-cognitive outcomes such as motivation and self-efficacy. (a)

4. Studies have shown that high teacher turnover (change in teachers from one year to the next),

a) Leads to decrease in achievement in core academic subjects.

b) Impedes overall student performance.

c) Increases overall expenditure on staff recruitment and training.

5. When teachers leave a school, they take along their knowledge and expertise in instructional strategies, collaborative relationships with colleagues, professional development training, and understanding of students’ learning needs at the school. (b)

Ijeoma also told Grace how she had tried to stop this cycle.
She had given incentives, raised salaries, organised free capacity development programs for her staff.

Last Christmas, she had used her salary as a Christmas bonus for all her staff and had gone home with nothing.

‘Grace, is my school cursed?’

As she spoke, Grace realized why IJ was in the doctor’s office.
Her blood pressure must have spiked again.

Being a proprietress herself, Grace completely understood IJ’s fears.

‘IJ you need to calm down. Your school is not cursed. Stressing yourself out will not solve anything.

What if something terrible happens to you right now, what will become of your school?’

A look of shock passed over Ijeoma’s face. It was obvious she hadn’t even thought of that.

‘Listen IJ, you are a school owner, not 'Wonder Woman'.

You need to start doing things differently this year.
In 2022, you need to be more strategic.

Let me tell you something I have never shared with you before.

5 years ago I was where you are.
But someone shared a principle that helped me.

He told me that running a school is like being a lumberjack.
Your task of felling trees may not change but your axes will definitely change over time.

You will not be able to tell when, where and how they will change but it sure will happen.
You will also not know in what state new axes will arrive.

But to remain efficient, you needed to do one thing well.
You needed to create a system of quickly acquiring and sharpening axes.

IJ, this principle is true for your school.

Your teachers are the axes that help you achieve your vision.
Understand that they are not statues.

They will not remain with you forever.
Sadly, you don’t get to choose when their time is up.

But you need to learn to let go once that time comes.
If you do not let go, they can hinder your progress.

Another thing you should know is that they are not all leaving because they hate you. NO!

Some will leave for better opportunities.
Celebrate those wins with them, wish them well and let them go.

Some will leave because their time is up.
Thank them for the time they spent with you and let them go.

Some will leave because they are not getting the satisfaction they need.
Pray they find what they’re looking for and let them go.

Some will leave because they don’t like you.
Try not to take it personally.
Learn from any mistakes you might have made and let them go.

Some will retire.
Celebrate their service and let them go.

Whatever their reasons, at some point they will all leave.
In 1s, in 2s, sometimes even in 20s.

Whatever the case, you must learn to let go at some point.
And bear no grudges.

Most importantly, you must plan ahead for that goodbye.
Don’t wait till it’s goodbye to plan.

Plan from the day you hire them.
This is part of contingency planning.

To do this you need to develop that sharpening system like the lumberjack.
What do I mean?

You need to create a system of quickly finding and bringing new axes up to speed in the shortest possible time.

Always ask yourself this question,
If all my staff quit today, do I have a system that can produce efficient replacements in 1 or 2 weeks?

I’ll explain this in more detail when I see you tomorrow.

When you told me you were in the hospital, I decided to drop by.
But before I go remember that your wellbeing comes first.

EVERYTHING BEGINS AND ENDS WITH YOU

SO YOU MUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST.

REMEMBER YOU ARE A SCHOOL OWNER.

YOU ARE NEITHER INVINCIBLE NOR INDESTRUCTIBLE.

………To be continued.
