It also stated that validation of NIN must have been done to ensure that candidates are able to generate their profile codes without delay.

*📰 JAMB BEGINS PROFILE CODE GENERATION FOR 2026 UTME CANDIDATES*

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has informed prospective candidates for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) that they can now generate their profile codes in preparation for registration.

The Board emphasized that the National Identification Number (NIN) is a prerequisite for UTME and Direct Entry (DE) registration. Candidates without NIN are advised to obtain it before attempting registration. [Guidelines for NIN application have been provided separately.]

To generate the profile code, candidates must send an SMS in the following format:

1. NIN [space] your 11-digit NIN number. Example: NIN 12345678901
2. Send the message from your personal GSM number to 55019 or 66019. The ten-character profile code will be sent to the same number. Candidates should note that once generated, the profile code cannot be changed, and biodata is automatically retrieved from NIMC.

Common issues during profile code generation include:
1. Error 550/66019: Incorrectly formatted request; ensure proper spacing and NIN format.
2. Number Already Registered: Phone number is linked to another profile; use the original SIM or a new number.
3. Unable to Verify NIN: Candidates should retry later if this occurs.

JAMB also issued a strict warning against the use of henna (locally called “Laali” or “Lale”) on fingers. Henna application can obstruct biometric verification, and attempts to clean it with chemicals may damage fingerprint whorls, preventing successful authentication.

Candidates are strongly advised to safeguard their ten fingers during both registration and the exam, as successful biometric verification is required for entry into the exam hall. Failure to comply will result in denial of access to examination questions.
