A band of gunmen looked for Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi State by 3:30 PM today at the Onueke site of the proposed Ebonyi Int'l Cargo Airport. The heavily armed men came on 7 motorcycles and two vehicles armed to the fingers. They got information that the governor was coming to supervise works on the site.
The armed men on getting to the site opened fire as bullets almost hit the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development, Engr Fidelis Nweze who heeled into the bush leaving behind his SUV Jeep. The gunmen then broke into the SUV and took away his laptop computer, architectural plan documents and money. They shot sporadically to the air and took over the site for some time waiting for the arrival of the governor.
The governor got information about what's happening and stayed back. After waiting for some time without the governor arriving, the armed men moved away and invaded a nearby UBA bank around the Ezaa South LGA headquarters, Onueke, robbing the bank as they gunned down two policemen on ground.
