I WILL TRANSFORM AE-FUNAI INTO A HUB OF ACADEMIC AND INTELLECTUAL EXCELLENCE -PROFESSOR NWACHUKWU

The newly-appointed Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Daniel C. Nwachukwu has promised to work tirelessly with all stakeholders including council, staff and students to transform the university into a hub of academic and intellectual excellence.

Professor Chukwu gave the assurance while giving his acceptance speech after his appointment by the Governing Council of the University as the 4th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

"I promise to justify the confidence reposed in me by working tirelessly with Council, staff and students to transform AE-FUNAI into a hub of academic and intellectual excellence

"My appointment marks a new beginning; I shall leverage on my experience to drive infrastructural growth, academic innovation, ethical standards, and boosts our global visibility and ranking."

The new AE-FUNAI helmsman also thanked the university Governing Council for finding him worthy to serve the university in such an exalted position.

He therefore assured the university community of his commitment to prioritizing their welfare, and working collaboratively to make AE-FUNAI a better place.

Professor Nwachukwu dedicated his appointment to the Mother of Perpetual Help, his beloved wife and children, and all those that stood by him.

He also extended a hand of fellowship to his fellow contestants, enjoining them to unite with him to propel AE-FUNAI to greater heights.

Following his appointment, Professor Nwachukwu shall be assuming office on 11th February, 2026, after the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Elom, on 10th February, 2026.

CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR MESSAGE FROM THE VICE-CHANCELLOR OF AE,-FUNAI

Dear colleagues, friends and my students, as we approach the end of another incredible year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the staff, and students of our university. In the last 4 years and 11 months to almost 5 years of my administration,, your dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence have made my tenure as Vice-Chancellor truly memorable and unforgettable.

We have achieved so much together, from running a stable academic calendar , to the outstanding academic performances of our students and alumni, to global recognition of our university, to the innovative research and development works of our academics, and the expansion and accreditation of our academic programmes, to a good level of infrastructural development, and the enhancement of staff welfare through yearly promotions of all qualified personnel and upgrade, proper placement and regularization of the appointment of countless others. . Your sold-out commitment to your official duties , the growth and development of our university has been the driving force behind our success. Thank you for all your tireless efforts over the years. I am honored to be part of this amazing community of AE-FUNAI.

As we celebrate the joy of the birth of our saviour, Jesus Christ and welcome a new year, I wish you all a refreshing season. May your holiday season be filled with love, laughter, and cherished moments with family, friends and colleagues.

Looking ahead to the new year, which ultimately will signal the end of my tenure, precisely on 10th February, 2026, I am excited about the opportunities and possibilities that still lie ahead.

Let us continue to strive for excellence and professionalism, push new boundaries and conquer challenges, and more importantly, support the incoming administration our highly-esteemed University.

AE-FUNAI PROMOTES 10 ACADEMIC STAFF TO PROFESSORS, 20 OTHERS TO READERS

The Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, at its 40th extraordinary meeting held on Friday, 19th December, 2025, approved the promotion of 10 academic staff of the university to the position of professors.

The Council also approved the elevation of 20 academics to the position of Readers, while the appointments of 3 others were also regularized to the position of Readers.

The promotions were based on the recommendations of the Appointment and Promotion Committee (A&PC) of the university on the outstanding 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 staff promotions.

The newly-minted Clarivate Professors of the university include: Arua Oko Omaka, Professor of War and Society; Alo Uzoma Rita, Professor of Computer Science and Informatics; Eleazu Chinedum, Professor of Clinical & Nutritional Biochemistry; Nwachukwu Arthur Nwachukwu, Professor of Environmental Physics, and Okoli Peter Chukwunonso, Professor of Analytical Chemistry.

Others are; Nwosu Innocent Ahamefula, Professor of Anthropology; Ololo Kennedy, Professor of Industrial Sociology & Organizational Studies; Eze Okonkwo Christopher, Professor of Labour History; Agbanike Faith Tobechi, Professor of Energy Economics, and Okoro Kingsley Nwannennaya, Professor of Sociology of Religion.

The 20 academics that were elevated to the position of Readers include: Onuoha Theresa Ngozi, Reader, Igbo Cultural Studies; Victor Chijioke, Reader, Political Science; Epochiolise Ruth Etuwe, Reader, Theatre Arts; Eneje Beatrice Chinyere, Reader, Accounting; Ekpechu Joseph, Reader, Medical Sociology; Chiamah Ogochukwu Caroline, Reader, Parasitology; Ekeleme Agatha Chima, Reader, Nutritional Biochemistry; Urama Evelyn, Reader, English & Literary Studies; Elom Chinyere Ori, Reader, Guidance & Counseling; and Okoronkwo Ethelbert, Reader, Sociology.

Other academic staff promoted to Readers are; Fameruwa Ademola Clement, Reader, Medical Biochemistry; Udu David Agwu, Reader, Chemistry Education; Chukwu Joseph Nwanja, Reader, Mass Communication; Uba Ifeoma Mercy Benedette, Reader, Guidance & Counseling; Aro Gilbert Chukwu, Reader, International Relations; Chukwu Anayochukwu Basil, Reader, Development Economics; Omenyi Louis Okechukwu, Reader, Mathematics; Nwamuo Bright Enyinnaya, Reader, Political History; Omonona Olufemi Victor, Reader, Geology; and Oje Obinna Aru, Reader, Environmental Biochemistry.

The three staff that were regularized to the position of Readers include: Udu Gabriel Obasi, Reader, Business Administration & Entrepreneurship; Sunday Nweke Nneka, Reader, General Surgery; and Agboeze Joseph, Reader, Obstetrics & Gynecology.

While congratulating the staff on their meritorious promotions, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Elom, noted that it was based on their academic and research track records, and having met the well-established criteria for academic promotions in the university.

He therefore charged them not to rest on their oars but to keep on discharging their core mandates of teaching, research and community service in order to remain productive and relevant in the academic workd.

He assured that his administration will keep on prioritizing the welfare of staff, ensuring that all those that have met the criteria for promotions are assessed and recommended to the Governing Council for promotion.

Concluding, Professor Elom added that since his assumption of duty in 2021, his administration has insisted on the yearly promotions of both teaching and non teaching staff, without delay, bias or witch-hunt.

BEHOLD THE NEW VICE CHANCELLOR (VC) OF ALEX EKWUEME FEDERAL UNIVERSITY NDUFU ALIKE (AE-FUNAI), EBONYI STATE.

The AE-FUNAI Governing Council, has today being the 20th day of December, 2025, announced the appointment of Prof. Daniel C. Nwachukwu as the new and the 4th Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university. His appointment became eminent, after a painstaking and transparent process involving over 40 professors of the university.

He hails from Okposi in Ohaozara LGA of Ebonyi State. He was elevated to the highest academic rank of a professor in 2016. He is a professor of cardiovascular physiology, Department of physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

May your reign Prof, bring AE-FUNAI to a greater academic height. Wishing you the best performance ever.

*AE-FUNAI VC COMMISSIONS 130 PLASTIC WASTE BINS TO COMBAT PLASTIC POLLUTION ON CAMPUS UNDER FRENCH EMBASSY FUND*

The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu - Alike, Ebonyi State, Professor Sunday Elom has commissioned 130 plastic waste bins to combat plastic pollution and promote a safer environment on campus under the auspices of the French Embassy Fund (EFP).


While speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by his deputy in charge of Administration, Professor Abel Ezeoha said that it is important to take the initiative of keeping the campus clean, adding that it cannot be achieved without critical stakeholders such as Management, Deans, Directors and Heads of Departments of the institution working together with students to make the initiative a success.

He noted that the plastic waste bins would be distributed round the campus, adding that staff especially Faculty officers would take up the responsibility of securing the bins in their various faculties, pointing out that those who flout the rules on proper waste disposal on campus would be penalized.

The coordinator and team lead of the university Waste to Wealth Initiative, Professor Robert Onyeneke said that the bins would go a long way in combating plastic waste in the university, and urged that the plastic waste be handled in such a way that the bins would serve its purpose.

He further stated that each of the waste bins is 250 litters in size, stressing that it would be strategically located and situated around the campus, covering different units, departments and faculties, and promised to organize sensitization programmes in the university on how to collect, sort and dispose plastic waste.

*AE-FUNAI TAKES DELIVERY OF 130 WASTE BINS TO COMBAT PLASTIC POLLUNTION ON CAMPUS UNDER FRENCH EMBASSY PROJECT*
In a bid to promote environmental sustainability and responsible plastic waste management on campus , Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, has taken delivery of about 130 big plastic waste bins to be installed around the campus to combat plastic pollution.
AE-FUNAI is one of the five universities in Nigeria participating in the research initiative funded by the Embassy of France in Nigeria, with the university’s project themed, “Transforming Plastic Waste into Wealth in AE-FUNAI.”
The installation of the bins is part of the university ’s broader plastic waste management project, which aims to address the environmental challenges posed by plastic pollution within the university community.
The programme, which is coordinated by Professor Robert Onyeneke, is scheduled to run for 14 (fourteen) months and includes various activities designed to create awareness, encourage proper waste disposal, and explore innovative ways to repurpose plastic waste into valuable products.
While taking the delivery of the waste bins, Professor Onyeneke highlighted the significance of the initiative, stating that its is one of the key activities outlined in the university’s environmental sustainability plan.
“This project is a crucial step towards keeping AE-FUNAI clean and free from plastic waste, and we are committed to ensuring its successful implementation,” he said.
He further explained that the 130 waste bins will be strategically placed around the campus to ensure easy and proper disposal of plastic waste. He added that the measure will not only enhance cleanliness within the institution but also contribute to a larger environmental movement that promotes recycling and waste- to wealth initiatives.
Professor Onyeneke expressed deep gratitude to the University management under the leadership of Professor Sunday Elom for their unwavering support in making the project a reality.
He also appreciated the embassy of France in Nigeria for funding the initiative through the French Embassy Fund, recognizing their commitment to fostering sustainable development in Nigerian institutions.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in AE-FUNAI’s efforts toward environmental conversation and waste management.
As the project progresses, the university community is expected to witness a transformative shift in waste disposal culture, ultimately leading to a cleaner and more sustainable learning environment.
