Harrison Ndifreke -Uyo
The Vice-Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Prof. Nse U. Essien, has lifted the ban on Alumni activities, paving the way for the resumption of alumni engagements after a two-year suspension.
The announcement was made during a meeting between the Vice-Chancellor and members of the Alumni Association held on Thursday, October 31, 2024, at the Main Campus.
Prof. Essien attributed the suspension to unruly behavior but expressed optimism that the Alumni would henceforth conduct themselves in a manner that promotes the university's image.
To ensure a seamless transition, the Vice-Chancellor announced plans to conduct elections for a new Alumni executive council within the next two months, utilizing an e-voting system.
In his address, Prof. Essien encouraged Alumni members to contribute positively to the university's growth, leveraging their networks to attract infrastructure and resources.
He highlighted AKSU's recent achievements, including full accreditation for all 43 programs, professional accreditations, and significant infrastructural developments.
The Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Dominic Ekpo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for lifting the ban and commended Alumni members for their cooperation.
The meeting resolved to establish an electoral body to oversee the e-voting process, marking a new chapter in AKSU Alumni relations.
This development is expected to boost Alumni engagement, foster collaboration, and promote AKSU's interests globally.
