CHAREWO which stands for Children’s Arts Education World, whose main aim is to champion the us Charewo - Child of the World!

CHAREWO which stands for Children’s Arts Education World, whose main aim is to champion the use of the rich arts heritage, cultural resources, indigenous knowledge and skills as critical elements of participatory arts education for sustainable development. Children’s Arts Education World is striving to promote effectively partnerships between community of artists and 9 custodians of arts heritage

on one hand, and the formal education institutions on the other hand in producing quality education for sustainable development facilitated through arts driven creative learning and teaching. CHAREWO has also created a platform for seeking international assistance for running programmes for effective training of school based teachers and community based artists as effective arts educators for development. The organization has also made itself available to participate in government programmes aimed at reforming education systems to effectively brings arts into school curricula and the curriculum of teacher education as well as to play a role in national cultural policy reforms that ensure that arts
Education by non-governmental organizations and inter-generational transmission of arts heritage by custodians of cultural heritage are effectively supported. After every three months we release a CHAREWO news that promotes events that are happening all over the world in the Children Arts Education World and organizations that are affiliated to us. Charewo is governed by a Steering Committee, It was founded by Dr Robert Mc Laren and it was handed over to Ms Kapenangutjiua Vetira who is the current Director at the moment. CONCEPT

The main features of the founding concept are:

Arts education with children and young people from early childhood to 25 years old. A pedagogy in which the child is at the centre and education is developmental, democratic, free and critical. Educating and developing children and young people in life skills, career skills and social commitment through the arts. Knowledge, practice and valuing of the arts and culture of their own community before going on to do the same with the other cultures of the world. Diversity of arts and culture as a basis for negotiating globalisation. Welcome and integration of children of all abilities, backgrounds, races, religions, and languages. An integrated arts syllabus that includes music, dance, drama, visual arts, media arts and personal and social education. The empowerment of children and young people through educational, organisational, democratic and representative practice. RATIONALE

CHAREWO aims to bring together organisations and individual members who subscribe to the Concept. The organisation will fill a gap as an organisation that is focused on arts and media education with children and young people with a child-development emphasis. It will cover arts education in the context of early childhood development, school-going children and out-of-school youth up to the age of 25 years and embrace work in music, drama, dance, fine arts and media. Coming together to give the need to educate, develop, empower and protect the children of the world a voice. Organisational and operational support.
