Lenovo launched the AI Student Phone in China, a stripped-down mobile device priced at just 299 yuan (roughly $44) that deliberately removes games, web browsers, and social media entirely. Designed to settle the "first phone" debate for parents, it replaces distractions with AI-assisted homework help and strict parental controls. A physical AI button activates a voice assistant that answers general knowledge questions, while a preloaded offline library covers English vocabulary and math formulas. Parents get real-time GPS tracking, geofencing alerts when a child leaves designated areas, and a "class mode" that limits the phone to showing time and emergency SOS calls during school hours. The device features a 1.83-inch touchscreen with impact-resistant Panda glass, a 1,850mAh battery, and 4G connectivity, and it cannot install blocked apps afterward.
