History made yesterday! Our Mining student Develo made it to the top 5 best projects at the Southern African Institute of Mining & Metallurgy student Colloquium yesterday in Johannesburg. He battled it with students from Wits, university of Pretoria, university of Johannesburg. His research will be published in the SAIMM journal. He has done us proud. We keep stretching the boundaries. We had Lina and Develo presenting at the colloquium. Congratulations to the mining students and staff members.

Our department is hosting the Society of Mining professors conference from 28 September to 3 October 2015. Delegates from Australia, Botswana, Germany, Spain, Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe have started trickling in for the conference. I hope all the 2nd and 4th years still remember my presentation I gave them just before I left. Remember I said our industry is a dangerous one. Please read this article if you didn't believe me. Take note this happened this year. This is why we need qualified and dedicated Mining Engineers who strive to prevent such accidents from happening, where they can. Please note, I am not saying the Mining Engineers at this specific mine were/are not qualified.
