Strategic Partnerships for Stronger Trade

24 August 2026 | Ongwediva, Namibia

The Namibia Trade Forum (NTF), in partnership with the Ongwediva Trade Fair Society and the Ministry of International Relations and Trade, hosted its annual Business Summit and Business-to-Business (B2B) engagement under the theme ā€œA Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Economy.ā€

The engagement brought together Namibian businesses, key stakeholders and businesses from South Africa across various sectors to strengthen cross-border trade, explore investment opportunities and create meaningful commercial partnerships.

Such platforms are essential in connecting businesses, facilitating market access and creating opportunities for collaboration. Strategic partnerships and strong public-private cooperation remain key pillars in advancing Namibia’s trade relations, strengthening local businesses and positioning Namibia as a competitive destination for investment and trade.

Delivering the keynote address, Hon. Jennely Matundu encouraged Namibian business leaders, women and youth to actively participate in platforms that create meaningful connections and open doors to new markets. She emphasised the importance of continuously expanding Namibia’s export basket, strengthening business competitiveness and positioning Namibian enterprises to attract foreign investors and buyers.

The Namibia Trade Forum extends its sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the engagement, particularly First National Bank of Namibia, the official sponsor of the Business Summit, and the Namibia National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) for its support.

Together, we can build stronger partnerships, unlock new opportunities and advance Namibia’s trade and investment agenda.

Namibia Manufacturing Summit: Advancing Local Manufacturing

The Namibia Trade Forum (NTF) participated in the Namibia Manufacturing Summit, held on 19–20 August 2026, organised by the PEPKOR Retail Group in collaboration with the Namibian Competition Commission.

The summit focused on strengthening local manufacturing and developing meaningful local value chains, particularly within the clothing and apparel sector, to increase the use of locally produced goods within retail value chains.

As the Secretariat of the Retail Sector Charter, the NTF supports initiatives that promote local sourcing of products and services, with the aim of strengthening domestic production, creating economic opportunities and contributing to inclusive economic growth.

The NTF remains committed to supporting the clothing and apparel sector through policy support, market access, product development and capacity development, while facilitating opportunities for Namibian businesses to participate in regional and continental markets, including the AfCFTA.

Strengthening Namibia–China Trade Opportunities

Namibia is opening new doors for businesses to access one of the world’s largest markets.

Following the signing of the China–Africa Economic Partnership for Shared Development (CADEPA) Framework Agreement, Namibia’s Zero-Tariff Preferential Agreement with China presents an important opportunity to expand market access, diversify exports and strengthen the competitiveness of Namibian products.

On 12 August 2026 in Windhoek, the Namibia Trade Forum (NTF), in partnership with the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI), hosted a Public-Private Dialogue (PPD) to unpack the agreement and translate this policy development into practical opportunities for the private sector.

The engagement brought together key stakeholders to clarify what zero-tariff access means for Namibian exporters. Discussions highlighted the importance of Rules of Origin, SPS compliance, GACC registration, customs documentation and Certificates of Origin as critical requirements for successfully accessing the Chinese market.

The dialogue also highlighted the need for Namibia to move beyond simply having market access—to actively converting opportunities into increased exports, investment, production and jobs. With the right support, businesses can leverage the agreement to diversify Namibia’s export basket, expand processed and value-added products, and participate more meaningfully in regional and global value chains.

As Namibia positions itself for greater participation in international trade, collaboration between Government, business support institutions and the private sector will be critical.

Market access is the opportunity. Trade is the outcome. Growth and job creation are the goal.
