WAKO Signs Collaboration Agreement with FISU to Promote 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞

WAKO President Mr.Roy Baker, together with WAKO First Vice President Mr. Espen Lund, signed a formal Collaboration Agreement with the International University Sports Federation (FISU) aimed at 𝐟𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐤𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐛𝐨𝐱𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐈𝐒𝐔 𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤.

Recognizing the important role of University sport in encouraging participation, personal development and sporting excellence, WAKO and FISU will work together to create new opportunities for student-athletes and promote the practice of kickboxing among Universities worldwide.
Under the agreement, FISU will organize and facilitate educational programs aimed at increasing the understanding of and participation in kickboxing within Universities and among its members. At the same time, WAKO will actively promote University sport and support the integration of University competitions featuring kickboxing into its sporting calendar.

The collaboration will also focus on encouraging the development of kickboxing and increasing participation among university students of all genders, while promoting the shared values of both organizations: education, inclusion, fair play, respect and excellence.
Through this partnership, FISU and WAKO aim to provide athletes who are at the Universities with additional opportunities to combine academic education with high-level sporting development.

WAKO President Roy Baker stated:
"It is great to see another major milestone being achieved by WAKO following the ISF Signatory, and now with the FISU Signatory and Memorandum of Understanding. This demonstrates the breadth and depth of the development of kickboxing globally and reflects our continued focus on delivering additional opportunities for our athletes, coaches and officials to further enhance the global reach of our sport.”

Kickboxing takes a positive step towards The Olympic Games Brisbane32.

The President of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO), Mr. Roy Baker, met with members of the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee in Australia at the end of July.
The meeting took place at the Brisbane 2032 headquarters, where Mr. Baker gave a brief update on the sport of kickboxing, highlighting its global presence and growth.

Representing the Local Organising Committee (LOC) were Chief Sport Officer, Kit McConnell, Director of Sport Brendan Keane and Sport Analyst Kirsten Fisher-Marsters. The LOC team also presented to Mr. Baker the Brisbane Games vision, mission, and the process framework for the years ahead.

Following the meeting, President Baker expressed his optimism and enthusiasm by stating:

"With the worldwide popularity of K1 Kickboxing and the thriving market in Australia, Asia and Oceania markets, we are eager to showcase the best of what we can offer."

He highlighted that K1 Kickboxing was shortlisted as one of the nine sports for LA28 games, which led to a thorough engagement and assessment by the LOC. Mr. Baker and his team remain dedicated and motivated to pursue this again in the future, should the opportunity arise.
Baker continued:
"We learnt a lot from LA28 process and the prestige and recognition of being shortlisted, has given us great insight, motivation and understanding in to how, as a collective and a sport, we can achieve this objective for our athletes in the future".
