📚✨ OSHIKOTO REGION CELEBRATES READATHORN WEEK 2025!

The Oshikoto Region proudly joined the rest of Namibia in celebrating Readathon Week, with a special regional event held at Elambo Combined School on 25 September 2025.

The event was commemorated under the theme, "Read Namibia: Break the Silence, Build Minds, Focus on Mental Wellness," This year's theme highlighted the power of reading in shaping minds and supporting mental well-being across all communities.

🎤 The keynote address was delivered by Mrs. Hilma George-Nuunyango, the Oshikoto Director of Education (MEIYSAC), who reminded everyone that reading is essential for all, no matter your role in society, and emphasized that we should all READ, in order to build minds.

📖 The event featured a variety of exciting activities including: Drawing and poetry showcases, Drama performances, quiz, spelling bee as well as a reading competition.
Prizes were awarded to the top performers in these competitions.

🎉 Beyond reading, the day was also filled with fun! Attendees enjoyed some dances, choir performances, and cultural entertainment, making the celebration both educational and enjoyable.

HONORING A NATIONAL HERO: A Tribute to Dr. Sam Nujoma

Elambo Combined School proudly presents a heartfelt tribute to our Founding President and Father of the Namibian Nation, Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma (1929 – 2025). Through an inspiring art gallery and memorial classroom, we honor his legacy, leadership, and unwavering dedication to Namibia’s freedom.

✨ SYMBOLISM IN OUR TRIBUTE:

🕯️ Candles – Represent the light Dr. Nujoma brought to our nation and the eternal flame of his legacy.
🏹 Bow and Arrows – Symbolize the resilience and courage of our liberation struggle, reminding us of the fight for independence.
🌸 Flowers – Represent respect, love, and gratitude for his sacrifices and service.
🖤 Black Curtains – A symbol of mourning, creating a reflective space to honor his memory.

📚 The library corner is filled with books on his life and Namibia’s history, ensuring that his story continues to inspire generations. The classroom floor and walls are inscribed with "R.I.P Dr. Nujoma”, echoing our deep sorrow and appreciation for his contributions.

Let us remember and uphold the values he fought for. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all Namibians! 🕊️🇳🇦
