⛰️ A new Berg-Op Academy tradition has begun — hiking the Fish River Canyon. An experience that cannot truly be explained, only lived.

23 - 27 May 2026, 5 days 100km - what a week !!

Five learners, one teacher, one guide, two old scholars, family and friends embarked on a journey that will be remembered for years to come. Gruelling at times, breathtaking every step of the way, and absolutely worth it. Apart from a few aching muscles and tired legs, we returned with full hearts, unforgettable memories, and a deeper appreciation for God’s creation.

From nights around the campfire beneath endless star-filled skies, to river crossings, towering cliffs, and long desert walks — the scenery was truly out of this world. The Fish River Canyon is something everyone should experience at least once.

A special thank you to Oom Wikus for safely driving our bus, and to Oom Japie — who has hiked the Fish River Canyon more than 40 times — for sharing his wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual guidance throughout the journey. Your impact reached far beyond the hike itself.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, especially the moms and dads who accompanied the group. Your support, encouragement, and spirit made this adventure even more meaningful.

This was more than just a hike. It was inspiring, humbling, unforgettable, and a tradition that will surely set Berg-Op Academy apart.

Our Grade 3s had a "thumping" good time today learning about the heart! We were honored to host Dr. Leandra Visser, a veterinarian, who shared her expert knowledge with us. 🩺

From seeing a heart cut open to feeling the different textures of a heart, lung, and liver, it was a truly hands-on experience! 🖐️ The day ended with some fantastic group work as the learners created posters to show off everything they’ve learned about our amazing bodies. 📝✨

🎉✨ Today, the Grade 3 class had a special guest! To wrap up our theme on infectious diseases, we welcomed Vinette Lewis, a pharmacist from Motjari Pharmacy. 💊👩‍⚕️ She captivated the children's attention with some fascinating experiments, showing them just how quickly germs that you can't see can spread! 🌍🦠

The children also learned about the different ways an immunized body reacts to diseases compared to one that isn't immunized. 💪💉 To top it all off, each pupil received a special gift package! 🎁😊 It was truly a pleasure to have her with us, and the children had a fantastic time! 💖

Oumas en oupas het die kindertjies se liedjies en rympies geniet, en het baie gesellig saam gekuier rondom heerlike koek en versnaperings! 🍰🥳

Die oumas en oupas het met die kinders baie oulike speletjies en tydverdrywe uit hulle eie kinderdae gedeel, en ook baie lekker met die kinders gespeel! 🧸🎲

Ons waardeer ons oumas en oupas en eer hulle vir die belangrike rol wat hulle in die kinders se lewens speel!!! ❤️🤩

🌍 Did you know that ostriches typically live for 30 to 40 years in the wild and can run at speeds of up to 70 km/h? 🦩✨

This and many other fascinating facts were discovered when our grade three learners visited Ombo Rest Camp! 🏞️🐾

It was an exciting field trip where the learners got to see amazing wild animals like giraffes, springboks, and a waterbuck. 🦒🦌 They had a blast feeding the ostriches by hand and watching a crocodile sunbathing peacefully! 🐊🌞

They also learned about the different tortoise species in Namibia and many other interesting facts. 🐢📚

They ended this outing with a refreshing milkshake! 🥤😊
