Songs of the Sea 2026 🌊
Last Friday, Lüderitz and the Blue School community came together for our annual choral performance. This is a tradition that began last year and will continue for years to come, celebrating our town, its people, and the ocean that connects us all.
The evening featured a gorgeous medley. Hymns like Amazing Grace and Beauty of the Earth were sung by the congregation. Our students performed sea shanties, poems, and a few more contemporary favourites including Yellow Submarine and Rock the Boat.
This year’s performance was dedicated to Megan Goodes, our beloved headteacher and English teacher, who was leading these preparations until her sudden passing. Her love of performing, and her own beautiful voice. shaped so much of this evening. It felt strange doing this without her but we hope she was watching, dancing along to the songs she chose herself. Wetsuit certainly hasn’t left our heads in weeks. 💙
So thank you, firstly, to Megan, who lit the fire for us to put on this show. To Daniel Hooft, for helping shape it and showing us we could carry it forward in Megan’s honour. To the teachers who helped organise and, in Megan’s absence, stepped in to rehearse the show: Lucy Hooft, Eliza Davies, and Sasha Barrow. And to our secondary student Amalia Hooft, for guiding us through the evening and introducing each song.
And of course, thank you to the Felsenkirche for letting us perform in Lüderitz’s iconic church and to everyone who came out to support us. It was a wonderful turnout. We can’t wait to welcome you all again next year. 🤗🎶
