Gospel John 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,
“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

Gospel John 16:23b-28

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

“I have told you this in figures of speech.
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures
but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
On that day you will ask in my name,
and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me
and have come to believe that I came from God.
I came from the Father and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”

Gospel John 15:26—16:4a

Jesus said to his disciples:
"When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father,
he will testify to me.
And you also testify,
because you have been with me from the beginning.

"I have told you this so that you may not fall away.
They will expel you from the synagogues;
in fact, the hour is coming when everyone who kills you
will think he is offering worship to God.
They will do this because they have not known either the Father or me.
I have told you this so that when their hour comes
you may remember that I told you."

Gospel John 16:5-11

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Now I am going to the one who sent me,
and not one of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'
But because I told you this, grief has filled your hearts.
But I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go.
For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you.
But if I go, I will send him to you.
And when he comes he will convict the world
in regard to sin and righteousness and condemnation:
sin, because they do not believe in me;
righteousness, because I am going to the Father
and you will no longer see me;
condemnation, because the ruler of this world has been condemned."

Gospel John 16:12-15

Jesus said to his disciples:
"I have much more to tell you, but you cannot bear it now.
But when he comes, the Spirit of truth,
he will guide you to all truth.
He will not speak on his own,
but he will speak what he hears,
and will declare to you the things that are coming.
He will glorify me,
because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you.
Everything that the Father has is mine;
for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine
and declare it to you."

Gospel Matthew 28:16-20

The eleven disciples went to Galilee,
to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them.
When they saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted.
Then Jesus approached and said to them,
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father,
and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.”

Gospel John 16:20-23

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn,
while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.
When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;
but when she has given birth to a child,
she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy
that a child has been born into the world.
So you also are now in anguish.
But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy away from you.
On that day you will not question me about anything.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you."

Ecumenical Unifying Tournament hosted by St Charles Lwanga Major Seminary at Windhoek.

Dear Reverend Fathers, Pastors, Religious Men and Women, Youth Leaders, Distinguished Guests, and Beloved Young People of the Windhoek City,

Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

It is with profound joy and gratitude that I warmly welcome all of you to the Ecumenical Unifying Tournament 2026, hosted at St. Charles Lwanga Major Seminary under the inspiring theme: “One in Christ, United in Mission.”

This gathering is far more than a sporting event. It is a celebration of faith, friendship, unity, and shared mission among the youth of our churches and communities. In a world often wounded by division, violence, prejudice, and hopelessness, your presence here becomes a powerful witness that Christ continues to unite hearts beyond denominations, languages, cultures, and backgrounds.

Sport has a unique way of bringing people together. On the field, we learn discipline, teamwork, respect, sacrifice, resilience, and mutual support. These are not only athletic virtues; they are Gospel values. Through soccer and netball, we are reminded that we are called not to compete against one another in hatred, but to journey together as brothers and sisters in building God’s Kingdom.

As young people of the Windhoek Deanery, you are not merely participants in a tournament; you are missionaries of unity and ambassadors of hope. Your energy, talents, and friendships can become instruments through which Christ touches society. The Church believes in you, walks with you, and encourages you to use your gifts to transform the world with love, integrity, and peace.

May these days be filled with joyful encounters, healthy competition, lasting friendships, and spiritual renewal. Let every match strengthen not only your bodies but also your hearts. Let every cheer from the crowd become a song of unity. Let every handshake after the game remind us that, though we may belong to different traditions, we remain one family in Christ.

I sincerely thank the organizing committee, youth coordinators, volunteers, sponsors, coaches, referees, and all who worked tirelessly to make this event possible. Your dedication is helping to build bridges among the youth and to strengthen ecumenical collaboration within our deanery.

To all the teams: play with passion, fairness, and respect. Victory is important, but the greatest triumph is unity in Christ.

May God bless this tournament abundantly, protect every participant, and deepen among us the spirit of communion and mission.

Welcome once again to the Ecumenical Unifying Tournament 2026.

“Strength in Unity, Triumph in Play.”
