Unclaimed certificates will be destroyed

More than Two Hundred and Eighty Seven Thousand (287 000) unclaimed school certificates are currently still at the Directorate of National Examinations and Assessment because many candidates failed to collect their certificates.
A media statement from the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture, Directorate of National Examinations and Assessment (DNEA) stated that despite media statements released annually for the collection of certificates many learners that finished examinations failed to come forward to collect their certificates.
According to the DNEA has run out of storage space for unclaimed Grade 10 and 12 certificates.
The unclaimed certificates that are currently stored at the education ministry’s offices dates back from 1993 up to 2016 and were issued for both Grade 10 and 12 full and part time graduates. A small number of old Standard 8 and 10 certificates, unclaimed for decades, are also stored at the ministry’s offices.
Collection of certificates can be done at the DNEA offices on Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 to 12:00. When collecting certificates candidates need to provide either of the following documents.
Candidates need to provide the officials with the correct centre name and number, dates of birth and year of examination which appears on their statement of results, any wrong information provided will make it difficult for officials to trace the correct certificates.
All candidates who are unable to collect their certificates from the DNEA office due to distance are urged to visit the Regional Examination Offices in their respective regions and complete an unclaimed certificate request so that their documents can be sent to the regional office or give permission ask friends and relatives who are in Windhoek to collect their certificates.
All certificates that will remain unclaimed after a period of one year as from 31 August 2019 will be categorized as not having an owner or unwanted by the owner and will be earmarked for destruction by shredding.
