On our dive at Pinnacles this morning, something enormous appeared… an ocean SUNFISH also called a MOLA MOLA
One of the most extraordinary animals in our ocean and the heaviest bony fish on Earth, with the largest individuals reaching more than 2,000 kg.
Totally unexpected. Completely wild.
There’s a beautiful symbolism attached to the sunfish…surrender, resilience, transformation and trusting the journey even when you can’t see where it’s taking you…
And somehow, that feels fitting.
Because we spend so much of our lives searching. Planning. Chasing the next thing. Trying to know what’s coming next.
But the ocean has a way of reminding us that some of the most extraordinary moments in life cannot be planned.
Sometimes you just have to keep moving, trust the journey, and be open to whatever comes out of the blue.
Today, the blue gave us a Mola mola.
A once in a lifetime encounter we will carry with us forever!💙

Happy Marine Protected Areas Day!💙
Today we celebrate the places that protect our oceans and the incredible life they support.
We are fortunate to dive within the protected marine waters of Maputo National Park. Originally established in 2009 as the Ponta do Ouro Partial Marine Reserve, this area became part of Maputo National Park in 2021 and in 2025, Maputo National Park was inscribed as part of the transboundary UNESCO World Heritage Site shared with South Africa’s iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
These protected waters are home to coral reefs, nesting loggerhead and leatherback turtles, dolphins, sharks, migrating humpback whales and an extraordinary diversity of marine life.
They also protect approximately 80% of Mozambique’s loggerhead and leatherback turtle nesting sites, making this one of the country’s most important coastal conservation areas.
The future of our oceans depends on the places we choose to protect today… Conservation isn’t about protecting nature from people…it’s about ensuring people and nature can continue to thrive together!💙
