Happy International Women's Day to this amazing team of women! They are truly an inspiration of what is possible when one empowered woman empowers another who empowers another...

Nora was an abandoned single mother.
Maria was widowed with two small children.
Cecilia lived in extreme poverty her whole life.

Now they are a powerful team who raise up other women to live out their full potential and thrive!

Here in Beira we just experienced another cyclone, and now many people are displaced and homeless from the flooding or their houses being destroyed by hurricane-force winds. Accommodation centers in school buildings are crowded, and with the covid situation getting worse, this was a huge problem. A relief organization contacted us to make 400 masks for some of these displaced people, and the ladies managed to finish them all within 30 hours! Super proud of our team!

Some of the donations that already came in were used to help the sewing school students and other members of the community who lost all the food in their houses from the flood.

And we're back!! After being closed for several months due to covid-19, we were finally allowed to start classes back up! It's good to hear the sound of machines running and voices laughing, talking, and singing in the sewing school again. The sound of hope being restored.

Restoring Hope History Part 8

About a year after starting the sewing school, we had a chance to visit the States and bring several suitcases full of products. We set up tables in the backs of churches where we spoke, sold items online, and managed to start the process of the whole sewing school becoming more sustainable. It's also wonderful that the people who buy the products get to play a part in the story of empowering desperate women to have a new life.

To this day, our long-term strategy is to send more of our lovely clothes and accessories to the States, as it will help the school sell more products and touch more lives. Stay tuned for more ways to buy our work once we work out a system for regular exports!

Restoring Hope History Part 7

One of our next products was colorful Bible covers with zippers and handles! They were an instant hit at church and we got so many orders it was hard to keep up! Being a completely unique product with no competition gave us an instant niche in the local market.

It was such a healing experience for the women sewing and seeing people value their work and their products. It brought them a sense of self-worth, perhaps for the first time in their lives. To this day, this is an amazing moment for many of our students, when they realize they have something to contribute to society that would support them instead of being stuck in a rut of always being in need and asking for help.

This is just part of the holistic healing we see the women undergo while they are in Restoring Hope!
