The UPM Biorefinery Complex welcomed a delegation from Energy Platform Japan (EPFJ) Co., Ltd., Japan, for a discussion on potential research and industry collaboration. The visit was coordinated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Daljit Singh A/L Karam Singh and hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Muhaimin Roslan and Dr. Izzudin Ibrahim.

The discussion highlighted UPM's capabilities in biomass valorisation, biorefinery technologies, and bio-based products, while exploring opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy and the circular bioeconomy. The engagement reinforces UPM's commitment to fostering international partnerships that drive innovation and sustainable development.

Biomass & Biorefinery Research Group (B&B), proudly congratulates Prof. Ts. Dr. Hidayah Ariffin on her appointment as Project Leader and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulkhairi Yusoff as Project Manager for the National Biofuel Policy Review project.

Funded by the Ministry of Plantation and Commodities (KPK) with a total grant of RM1,067,653.72, the project brings together researchers from the UDRP Biomass Valorization & Bioenergy team and UPM to support the review and enhancement of Malaysia's National Biofuel Policy.

This appointment reflects the group's expertise and continued commitment to advancing sustainable biomass utilization, bioenergy innovation, and evidence-based policy development.

Congratulations to the entire research team, and we wish them every success in this impactful national initiative.

Hands-on Learning at the Biorefinery Complex, UPM

On 25 June 2026, the Biorefinery Complex, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) was pleased to welcome 79 students and 4 teachers from Saitama Omiya High School, Japan, as part of the PUTRA® CELIK Programme organised by the Centre for the Advancement of Language Competence (CALC), UPM.

The programme featured an engaging session by Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Muhaimin, who introduced participants to Malaysia's palm oil industry, biomass valorisation, and sustainable biorefinery technologies. Students also enjoyed a tour of the Biorefinery Complex and participated in a hands-on laboratory session, gaining first-hand experience in palm oil processing and its value-added applications.

We sincerely thank CALC UPM, Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Muhaimin, and everyone involved in making this programme a meaningful and memorable learning experience. We look forward to welcoming more international students to the Biorefinery Complex in the future.

Educational Visit to the Biorefinery Complex, UPM

On 2 July 2026, the Biorefinery Complex, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) welcomed students from the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, Faculty of Forestry and Environment, enrolled in the Wastewater Treatment (ESC3204) course.

The visit provided students with insights into biorefinery technologies and sustainable biomass utilisation, highlighting their role in supporting environmental sustainability and resource recovery alongside wastewater treatment. The programme also included an informative briefing by Associate Professor Dr. Ahmad Muhaimin on the Biorefinery Complex's research facilities and current innovations.

Thank you to all lecturers and students for the visit. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future.
