Is Your Child Really Just Lazy?
A question I hear quite often from parents:
“Why can my child do everything else, but never wants to practise piano?”
After teaching for many years, I’ve realised that sometimes, it’s not really laziness.
Maybe they simply don’t know where to start.
Maybe the piece feels too difficult, and after making a few mistakes, they would rather stop than keep trying.
Or maybe they actually want to play well, but they don’t know what they should practise when they get home.
So instead of asking:
“Did you practise today?”
Try asking:
“Which part was difficult today?”
Sometimes, children don’t need more pressure.
They just need someone to help them break a difficult task into smaller steps.
🎹 Learning piano is not only about learning music.
It’s also about learning how to keep going when something doesn’t come easily.
