Shaping geoscientists since 2006, UTPโ€™s Department of Geoscience (DG) now embarks on a new era under Faculty of Science, Management & Computing (FSMC) and AP Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Latiff โ€” driving innovation from Bachelorโ€™s to PhD programmes. On 13 August 2026, the Department of Geoscience had the privilege of engaging in a productive discussion with the Faculty of Geo-resources and Geotechnical Engineering, Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).

The meeting explored potential areas of collaboration in academic exchange, research initiatives, student mobility, capacity building, and knowledge sharing between our institutions. These discussions reflect our shared commitment to advancing geoscience education, fostering innovation, and addressing regional challenges through collaborative partnerships.

On 24 July 2026, students participated in the Certification Programme: Seismic Interpretation using PaleoScan, conducted in collaboration with our industry partner, Eliis.

This programme was designed to:
โœ… Enhance students' practical competencies using PaleoScan, a leading industry-standard seismic interpretation platform.
โœ… Improve employability and industry readiness by exposing students to real-world workflows and challenges faced in the energy industry.

Over the past 10 weeks, participating students worked diligently on projects based on real datasets provided as part of the programme. This hands-on experience enabled them to apply seismic interpretation concepts, strengthen their technical skills, and develop solutions aligned with industry expectations.

The journey culminates in a final assessment, where representatives from Eliis will evaluate the students' projects and provide valuable industry feedback. This direct engagement with industry experts offers an invaluable opportunity for students to showcase their knowledge, professionalism, and problem-solving capabilities.

A sincere thank you to Eliis for their continued support in bridging academia and industry, helping to prepare the next generation of geoscience professionals for successful careers.
