🌱 Creativity, Coding & Young Minds in Action!

Over the past month, the Tenom Innovation Center (TIC) has been running a series of OctoStudio Creative Coding Workshops specially designed for preschool children and students from the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI).

Across four mini workshops, our young participants were introduced to the world of creative coding through storytelling, animation and interactive digital creation using the OctoStudio platform.

What made this program truly special was that the workshops were facilitated by TIC student mentors themselves. Watching our student mentors patiently guide the children through their first experiences in coding was a powerful reminder that learning can truly be peer-driven, inspiring and inclusive.

Many of the children were experiencing coding and digital storytelling for the very first time. Through simple creative activities, they explored how technology can become a tool for imagination, creativity and expression.

From the feedback received from parents, we are encouraged to see that the workshops helped children become more confident, creative and curious about technology. Parents also expressed strong support for continuing and expanding similar programs in the future.

At TIC, we believe that innovation should be accessible to everyone, including young learners and students with diverse learning needs. Programs like this remind us that when given the right environment and encouragement, every child has the potential to create, explore and imagine.

TIC Dinner & 8th Birthday Celebration

Beyond just makan-makan, we celebrated some very special milestones:

👏 Cikgu Rodolf – completing NPQEL, Promoted to PP Sector Perancangan
👏 Cikgu Rosila – appointed Ketua Teknik & Vokasional
👏 Cikgu Atie – moving on to JPN as KPP Perancangan
👏 Dr. Leona – officially earning her PhD

We also heard heartfelt sharing from our teachers — honest reflections about life’s challenges, growth, and how TIC has become a meaningful part of their journey ✨

And so the episode of "Big mentors, Tiny humans, HUGE energy!" begins...

Day 1 ✅ where TIC mentors spent a fun 1 hour session with the preschoolers, exploring coding and creativity using OctoStudio

So many curious faces, brave attempts, and proud smiles.
We were also happy to have parents present throughout the session. Seeing their support and smiles made the day even more special.

✨ 2 Days Down, Many Seeds Planted✨

We’ve just completed 2 out of 6 days of our new TIC Mentor Training 🌱

Day 1 was filled with coding using OctoStudio,
and Day 2 focused on Scratch gamification—not just learning how to code, but learning how to "think, design, and tell stories through technology".

What truly made these two days special was seeing "so many new student mentors" coming together, representing schools across the "Tenom district".

These young mentors will soon return to their own school communities—not as “experts”, but as "enablers"—bringing "awareness, exposure, curiosity, and confidence" to those around them.

This is what we believe in at TIC.
✨ STEAM education is not a syllabus to be completed.
It is a mindset to be nurtured—with humans at the core of becoming.

Still 4 days to go, and the journey is only getting more exciting 🚀
Grateful for the mentors, the trainers, and the shared belief that learning should always empower others.
