Happy New Year! 🏮🎇 (Yes, I’m late to the party.)

My sincere apologies for the recent radio silence! The end of 2025 and start of 2026 was wonderfully bustling, hence I haven’t posted very often.

So, let’s dissect that exact word to welcome us back. Do you pronounce the ‘T’ in ‘often’?

🗣️ OFF-en: The traditional way (with a silent ‘T’).
🗣️ OFF-ten: The modern, phonetic way.

Both are entirely acceptable! However, keeping the ‘T’ silent often yields a smoother cadence in fluent conversation.

The only question that matters: Can you count it?
• If you can (like our cookies 🍪), use MANY.
• If you can’t (like sugar, water, or time), use MUCH.

💛 A classic Malaysian phrase that’s full of heart, lah!
Even I use it all the time when speaking casually 😏

But when it comes to writing or speaking in more formal settings, here’s a better way:

👉 “Wait for me!”
👉 “Hang on a second.”
👉 “Could you wait a moment?”

Local flavour, global clarity. Use what fits the situation!

But knowing when to switch between casual/local English and written/proper English is a superpower.

🇲🇾 Common gem: “Off the aircon.”
👉 Clearer version: “Turn off the aircon.”
