📚 Why Does My Child Keep Making Grammar Mistakes?

Yesterday, one of my Year 4 pupils answered this question:

She ______ to school every day.

He chose going.

I smiled and asked,

"Why did you choose that answer?"

He looked down and replied,

"Teacher... I thought words ending with -ing sounded more advanced." 😂

At first, I thought it was just one careless mistake.

But as we continued with more questions, I realised the real problem.

❌ He didn't notice the words every day.

❌ He forgot that yesterday requires the Past Simple tense.

❌ He couldn't remember that now needs is/am/are + verb-ing.

❌ He was still unsure whether He, She, and It should be followed by a verb ending in -s.

The truth is...

These are grammar rules he has already learned at school.

But when different grammar points appear together in an exam, everything gets mixed up.

Many Year 4 pupils don't actually struggle because they "can't learn Grammar."

They simply...

📌 remember a little,

📌 forget a little,

📌 and mix everything up during the test.

As a result, they lose several marks in MPT4 Part 1 (Lexico-Grammar).

That's why I decided not to create another thick grammar textbook.

Instead, I kept asking myself:

"If I were a Year 4 pupil preparing for MPT4, what would I really need before the exam?"

📚 为什么孩子 Grammar 一直学，却一直错？
昨天上课时，一位 Year 4 学生做了一题：
She ______ to school every day.
他选了 going。

我问他：
「为什么选这个？」

他低着头说：
「老师，我觉得有 ing 就比较高级……」😂

继续做下去，我发现问题不是这一题。
而是……
❌ every day 不会看
❌ yesterday 不知道要用过去式
❌ now 又忘记要用 is/am/are + ing
❌ He、She、It 后面到底要不要加 s？

这些都是他以前学过的。
只是到了考试，
全部混在一起。
其实很多 Year 4 孩子不是不会 Grammar。

而是：
📌 会一点点。
📌 忘一点点。
📌 考试时全部混在一起。

最后 Part 1 一错就是好几题。
所以最近，我没有继续做一本厚厚的 Grammar 教材。

我反而一直在整理：
如果我是学生，考试前真正需要复习的是什么？

所以，他们练习做了不少，成绩却一直没有明显进步。

在课堂上，我会带着孩子一步一步思考：

✅ 先找关键词
✅ 再判断语法规则
✅ 学会分析题目，而不是死记答案
✅ 写作从「会写一句」慢慢进步到「写完整一段」

这些都是平时课堂真实练习的一部分。

📚 小学 Std 4 英语突然改格式！孩子 Part 6 不会写，怎么办？

最近，很多 Year 4 家长都来问我同一个问题：
「老师，我孩子单词会背、Grammar 也会一点，可是一到 Part 6 就不会写作文。」

其实，这真的不是个别现象。
根据这段时间的观察，很多孩子的问题不是英文不好，而是不知道怎样把想法写出来。

他们常常会遇到这些情况：
❌ 看着图片，不知道第一句怎么开始。
❌ 想得到答案，却不知道怎样组织句子。
❌ 写不到 40–50 个字。
❌ 理由太简单，内容不够完整。
❌ Grammar 一紧张就一直出错。
所以，孩子会越来越害怕写作文，也越来越没有信心。

✨ Part 6 真正考的，不只是英文。

它更考验孩子：

✅ 能不能表达自己的想法。
✅ 能不能给出两个合理的理由。
✅ 能不能把内容写成一个完整的段落。
✅ 能不能有条理地组织句子。
很多家长都会让孩子背范文。

背范文当然有帮助，但如果孩子不知道为什么这样写，遇到新的题目，还是容易卡住。

❤️ 我的教学重点只有一句话：

先会写，再写好。
我会先帮助孩子建立写作框架，再一步一步学习：
📌 Opinion（表达观点）
📌 Reason 1（第一个理由）
📌 Reason 2（第二个理由）
📌 Closing（总结）

当孩子知道每一步该写什么，就会更敢下笔，也更容易写出完整的作文。
