Students from VPT214 Ergonomic in Design, under the guidance of Ms. Noor Azlina Binti Mohamed Khalid, recently conducted a field study at the Accessible Playground, Youth Park, Penang.

The visit provided an opportunity for students to observe and evaluate the playground’s accessibility features, identify existing challenges, and explore potential design solutions that promote inclusivity for users of all abilities.

Through this hands-on learning experience, students applied ergonomic design principles in a real-world setting, strengthening their understanding of user-centred design and the importance of creating accessible public spaces for the community.

♻️ Designing a More Sustainable Future Through Innovation

At the School of the Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), 26 Bachelor of Product Design students partnered with the Malaysian Timber Industry Board (MTIB) through the Fibre and Biocomposite Centre (FIDEC) to explore the potential of Wood-Plastic Composites (WPC) in modular flat-pack product design.

From concept development to innovative solutions, students transformed sustainable materials into functional, market-ready products—bridging creativity, technology, and industry needs.

This collaboration demonstrates how product design education empowers future designers to create meaningful, sustainable innovations with real-world impact.

🌿 Design. Innovate. Sustain.
