Our 3-year-olds at Treehouse Childcare turned into mini chefs today! 🍃 They snipped fresh pandan leaves to make natural flavoring for homemade pandan jelly—proving that learning can be deliciously fun!
Snipping leaves with safety scissors does so much more than make great jelly:

Teaching children Mandarin character writing need not be a nightmare! It’s all about finding what works for each unique child and expanding on it.

This little guy used to have zero interest in his exercise book, but we found his spark! He truly thrives on positive reinforcement (lots of verbal encouragement!) and multi-sensory methods that combine audio, visual, and hand gestures. Watch him go! 📝✨

We made our own apple jam today and had it with crackers!

It may seem like just nothing, but we learnt
1. Math - half and quarters
2. Safety - how to cut & use the cooker
3. Science - tastes & textures
4. Writing skills - strengthening our finger muscles
5. Language - we built our vocabulary bank

Whoever said that playschool is just play, should come and experience a day in Treehouse Childcare, where play has a purpose, and that's where the word school comes in!

Over the weekend, I had the opportunity to cook for some friends. I had chives in my cooking and I noticed that one child picked it out. When I asked her to try it, she refused, at which her mother chimed in later that she also doesn’t eat it and doesn’t cook it at home.

This got me thinking about all the adult picky eaters that I have encountered. Of course, we no longer call them picky eaters, simply because they are adults and they have a choice. But, what got them to dislike those certain foods?

One BIG reason: Those foods were never served at their homes by their parents.

If you do not like fish, you will not cook fish, and your child will have very limited exposure to fish.

Familiarity breeds acceptance, and it takes time—sometimes 10 to 15 exposures before a child will comfortably accept a new food. However, most of us parents, due to time constraints and the busyness of life, will give up after a few tries.

So, if you want to raise a good eater, try these strategies:
- Serve these foods before they turn 12 months, getting their palate used to the taste before they know how to reject a food.
- Let them touch and feel the ingredients in the market and stores, and at home, before cooking them.
- Allow your child to be part of the food preparation process.
- Talk about how good the food is for them and what it does for their growing bodies.
- Serve just a piece and encourage them to try, and repeat this many times.
- Serve the new food item with familiar food.
