Please join us in congratulating Koay Yun Sheng (Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Robotics) with Honours) and his team on Winning Champion at the Monash University's Think Beyond The Prompt: AI x Human Business Challenge 2026.

The competition challenged participants to solve a business case under tight time constraints. Teams were first given 45 minutes to develop a solution without the use of AI, followed by 35 minutes to stress-test, refine, and enhance their ideas using AI tools.

Koay and his teammates successfully advanced to the final stage as one of the top eight shortlisted teams, where they presented their solution before a panel of judges. Following the final presentation and judging round, the team was announced as the Champion of the competition.

The winning team comprised students from different universities and academic backgrounds:
Koay Yun Sheng – Sunway University, Mechatronic Engineering
Ng Wei Xiang – Taylor’s University, Chemical Engineering
Eason Too – Sunway College, ICAEW

This achievement reflects not only the team's strong analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills, but also their ability to effectively leverage both human creativity and artificial intelligence in addressing real-world business challenges.

Once again, congratulations to Koay Yun Sheng and his team on this outstanding accomplishment. We wish them continued success in their future endeavours.

Please join us in congratulating Koay Yun Sheng, a student from the Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Robotics) with Honours programme at Sunway University, and his team on achieving 2nd Runner-Up at the Mastercard Future Advisors Challenge 2026.

The prestigious challenge brought together 140 high-performing students, who were randomly assigned into teams and tasked with solving a real-world business case within just six hours, without the use of AI. Participants were required to quickly adapt to new teammates, collaborate effectively under pressure, and develop strategic recommendations to present before a panel of judges.

Demonstrating exceptional teamwork, adaptability, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, Yun Sheng's team emerged as one of only four finalist teams before ultimately securing the 2nd Runner-Up position in the competition.

This remarkable achievement reflects the ability of Sunway students to excel beyond their technical disciplines and apply their knowledge, creativity, and leadership skills in a highly competitive and fast-paced environment.

Congratulations once again to Koay Yun Sheng and his team on this outstanding accomplishment. We wish them continued success in their future endeavours.

🌟 SOMChE 2026 Successfully Concludes at Sunway University 🌟

This year marked a significant milestone as Sunway University had the opportunity to host SOMChE for the first time, welcoming over 90 participants from Malaysia and abroad, including academics, researchers, industry professionals, and students. Held under the theme "Intelligent and Integrated Chemical Engineering for Global Challenges," the conference provided a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration.

The three-day conference featured 68 technical presentations, three plenary lectures, and six keynote talks, covering topics such as AI, digitalisation, sustainability, energy, advanced materials, process innovation, and chemical engineering education.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our sponsors, IChemE Malaysia, Hach, KLK OLEO, IKA, Oleology Asia, and Processes (MDPI), as well as our dedicated Organising Committee and student volunteers for their invaluable contributions in making SOMChE 2026 a success.

Participants also had the opportunity to visit Sunway University's Net-Zero Building, gaining first-hand insights into the University's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of SOMChE 2026. We look forward to fostering future collaborations and advancing innovative solutions to global challenges.

Congratulations to Koay Yun Sheng (Bachelor of Mechatronic Engineering (Robotics) with Honours) and team on winning 1st Runner-Up at the Malaysian Public Policy Competition 2026, organised by the International Council of Malaysian Scholars and Associates (ICMS). This year marked the 16th edition of the competition, which attracted participation from more than 220 teams nationwide.

The team comprised Yun Sheng from Sunway University and three students from Universiti Malaya. Over a period of approximately four months, they developed a policy proposal addressing Malaysia's rising cost of living, with a particular focus on enhancing food affordability for the B40 community.

The competition involved multiple stages of assessment. From over 220 participating teams, only 60 teams were shortlisted, followed by 30 teams advancing to the semi-finals. The team successfully navigated several assessment components, including a debate round, elevator pitch, and policy presentation. Their outstanding performance earned them a place among the five Grand Finalists, ultimately securing the position of 1st Runner-Up.

As a result of their achievement, the team will have the opportunity to present their policy proposal to representatives from the Ministry of Finance, including Deputy Minister of Finance, YB Tuan Liew Chin Tong, on 9 September 2026. This provides a valuable platform for their recommendations to be considered by policymakers beyond the competition setting.

The team would also like to express their sincere appreciation to Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr Steven Hoo Choon Lih for his guidance, mentorship, and unwavering support throughout the competition journey.

Reflecting on the experience, the team shared that it was highly meaningful as it enabled them to apply research, policy analysis, problem-solving, and presentation skills to a real socioeconomic challenge affecting communities across Malaysia. It also provided a valuable opportunity to represent Sunway University while collaborating with students from another leading Malaysian university.

Once again, congratulations to the team on this remarkable accomplishment.
