A highlight of Day 4 of the FET Engineering and Computing Xploration Week 2026, the Internet Alliance Business Summit 2026: Rehumanizing Business was successfully held at Sunway Square, Sunway University.

Bringing together industry leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, academics, and students, the summit explored how businesses can embrace technology and digital transformation while maintaining a strong focus on human values, connection, and purpose. Through insightful keynote sessions, engaging discussions, and meaningful networking opportunities, participants gained valuable perspectives on building a more human-centred future in the digital age.

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology is proud to support initiatives that bridge academia and industry, fostering conversations that inspire innovation, collaboration, and responsible technological advancement.

This week, we are proud to spotlight Ali Afzalian from School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence as FET Academic of the Week!

Ali Afzalian is the programme leader of Master in Data Science (ODL) since May 2024. He has increased MDS enrolment by 55% in two years, and supervised two cohorts of graduates with nearly 100% success and completion rates.

Congratulations to our Computing students, who were named 2nd Runner-Up at the Test Design Competition (TDC) 2.0 2026, held as part of SOFTEC Asia 2026, the region's leading software quality assurance conference.

Competing as Team Young & Broke, the team demonstrated exceptional talent, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to secure their place among a strong field of more than ten university teams:

• Sah Wen Pin (Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons))
• Dylan Yeo Jin Yi (Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons))
• Sean Dhirren Jeremiah (Bachelor of Software Engineering (Hons))
• Kelvin Kan Chuan Jie (Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Information Technology)

Guided and supervised by Ms Foo Jinny, the team took on a demanding challenge. As the flagship university competition organised by the Malaysian Software Testing Board (MSTB), TDC 2.0 required students to work on a real, production system with minimal documentation, integrating requirements engineering, automation testing, and a DevOps mindset. Participants were tasked with analysing an unfamiliar system, developing and executing automated tests using industry tools, and defending their decisions before a panel of experienced practitioners.

What makes this achievement even more significant is the calibre of the platform on which they competed. MSTB is Malaysia's national member of the International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB), the globally recognised body for software testing certification. By competing at this level, Louis, Wen Pin, Dylan, Sean, and Kelvin demonstrated their capabilities against international standards and distinguished themselves admirably. They also had the opportunity to attend the SOFTEC Asia Conference, gaining valuable insights from global experts shaping the future of software testing and quality assurance.

This achievement reflects not only the students' technical competencies and perseverance but also the quality of education and industry-relevant training provided by the programme.
