The Diploma in Business at Taylor's College is honoured to have received a timely and insightful guest lecture from Nur Amalina Ahmad Zaki, who is from the Economics Department of the Central Bank, to share with our students on the latest developments of the Malaysian labour market, our position at the ASEAN and global stage, and actionable steps students can take to strengthen their employability.

In the guest lecture titled "Work and Wages: How Malaysia's Labour Market is Changing", the students were exposed to the extensive research done by the economists, leading to monetary policy and labour regulations such as the mininum wage.

This is built on the theoretical foundations that I have delivered to the students in the last two weeks leading up to today's session, on short-run & long-run production and costs, where labour is a critical aspect of the production function.

We are glad that this has sparked interest amongst the students as they gear themselves to face Macroeconomics in their upcoming semester, and the opportunities available at the Central Bank once they become a graduate.

Next month, we look forward to an exciting educational visit to an FMCG factory in Seremban.

Stared at this for a few good moments over coffee.

What is a GOOD STRUGGLE of a PhD if you are not submitting to these 3% and 5% acceptance journals!

I want to document not only the ups but also the downs - part and parcel of the journey.

Last day of our long weekend - took the afternoon to browse the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair at World Trade Centre.

Very excited for this read - "Dari Klebang ke Cambridge" by Dr. Hanis Hidayu, who is the PhD candidate who got NO CORRECTIONS for her thesis at Cambridge.

Back to work tomorrow - a well-packed June with midterm exams, grant workshops, guest lectures, and heading down to Johor for an innovation exhibition.

This paper explores how micro-credentials are reshaping business education through flexible, modular, and skills-oriented learning. šŸ’¼

My key argument is simple: micro-credentials should not replace degrees, but they can strengthen higher education when designed with quality assurance, employer recognition, academic coherence, and equitable access in mind. āš™ļø

As lifelong learning becomes increasingly important, the challenge is not just to offer shorter credentials, but to design meaningful ones.

Students from the Diploma in Business programme at Taylor's College paid a fruitful visit to Westports Malaysia , giving them the opportunity to witness close-up the operations of one of the busiest ports in Southeast Asia.

Even the lecturers were in awe seeing the sheer magnitude of operations - more than 11 million TEUs moved through last year! Thank you to En. Badli Shah and team for the great hospitality and explanation. We look forward to more visits.

The Diploma in Business programme prides itself for deep academia-industry collaboration, bridging students to their careers as soon as they conclude their studies with us. Next month we will head back to the Lakeside Campus for an exciting guest lecture - stay tuned!

How would futuristic Malaysia look like? Though the competition doesn't happen here but on Instagram, just sharing my take on using to produce my entry to the IAFC competition organised by UPSI. This was created by ChatGPT.

I waited until the last day to ideate the photo, and what I saw were entries that are overly cyberpunk and lost the Malaysian roots. So, I came up with the idea that "A truly advanced nation is not one that leaves tradition behind, but one that transforms it into strength." Hopefully, it's the right creative direction.

p.s. 10% of the score comes from likes - so if you'd like to give some love, it's at https://www.instagram.com/p/DYH6lLlCc68/

Delighted to have completed and passed the Certified Officer in Quality Assurance of Higher Education Training Programme Tier 1: Quality Assurance Landscape and Outcome-Based Education by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

It was a good reminder that quality assurance is not just about documentation or compliance. At its best, it is about making teaching, learning, and academic standards more coherent, purposeful, and accountable.

I’m happy to have had the chance to learn more in this area, and I hope to put it to good use in my work. Looking forward to Tier 2 in the coming months.

Glad to share my latest commentary in Sin Chew Daily ę˜Ÿę“²ę—„ęŠ„.

The Iran fuel shock should not be read only as an oil story. To me, it is also a test of coordination. When fuel becomes the price everyone watches, the real challenge is not just supply or subsidy, but whether institutions can manage expectations, protect trust, and respond in a way that feels fair and coherent to the public.

That is why shocks like this are never only about crude. They are also about governance, communication, and national coordination capacity.

Very honoured to see this argument carried in the Chinese press as well.
