Every student has a different story, and it's my privilege to get to be a part of it and contribute as best as I can.

I received this review in June 2022, after SPM 2021 results were out.

This student of mine really proved that with a lot of effort, time and dedication she could show tremendous improvement in her results. I'm extremely proud of her and wish her all the best as she continues to pursue Higher Education in Science.

2022, what a year it's been. I knew being in education involved teaching, motivating and nurturing, but I wasn't prepared for what came my way this year.

It started off with the usual focus on academics. However, as I got to know some of my students better, some decided to confide in me, sharing the challenges they faced as a teen- stress, loneliness, eating disorders, depression, and more. The things my seemingly happy students shared with me, broke my heart and left me feeling very distressed, overwhelmed and helpless.

I had to learn how to address different issues tactfully, recognise when my students were ready to receive my advice and to direct my student and their families to professional help when it was beyond my capabilities. A steep learning curve indeed but one that I was able to climb with the support of family and friends. I am humbled that I had been given these learning opportunities, so proud of my students' courage and thankful for parents who were open to hearing me out.

As I step into 2023, I look forward to what this new year holds for me. More importantly, I hope that through my teaching, I will continue to impact the lives of my students in a positive way.

Today, I asked one of my Year 10 students if his ambition had changed. He said yes and proceeded to tell me what it was. I said it was a great idea, one that played to his strengths and with much practice, his skills would definitely improve.

The pure joy on my student's face upon being encouraged really warmed my heart. I'm reminded yet again, that helping students understand the subject I'm teaching and improving their grades is only one aspect of my job.

More importantly, my work includes motivating students to learn, to identify and encourage them to work on their strengths even if it is not science related and to build their confidence. I'm truly thankful that I get to play this role called "teacher" in their lives.

I believe every student who is given the right coaching on top of their efforts, can show improvement in their studies.
