Who says Labour Day is only about the 9-to-5? 🛠️❤️

At Mind Story, we know that the hardest work doesn't always happen at a desk. It happens in the quiet moments of patience, the breakthrough after a meltdown, and the "small" victories that feel like winning a marathon.

Today, we salute the "Heart Work" of our teachers, therapists and our incredible parents. Whether you are navigating complex behaviors in the classroom or advocating for your child’s needs at home, your labour is seen and celebrated.

Is there a teacher or therapist at Mind Story who has been a pillar for your family? Drop a "Thank You" or a ❤️ in the comments to let them know they’re making a difference!

🛍️ Picture this: Saturday afternoon at the mall. Your child suddenly drops to the floor, screaming — over shoes.
Every passing stranger's eyes are on you. And that familiar wave of embarrassment hits. 😔

But here's what most people don't see:
The flickering lights. The overlapping sounds bouncing off every wall. The hundred small sensory inputs that have been quietly stacking up all day — until your child simply ran out of space.

What looks like "won't" is often "can't."

True defiance is a choice. But sensory overload? That's an involuntary shutdown — and punishing a child for it is like scolding someone for sneezing during an allergy attack.

In our new blog post, we break down:
🧠 The difference between behavioral "won't" and sensory "can't"
💛 How to respond in the moment — without making it worse
🏠 A simple Environment Audit you can do tonight to reduce meltdowns at home
Your child isn't giving you a hard time. They're having a hard time.

"I love the idea of messy play... but I just can't deal with the cleanup!" 🧼😩

Does this sound like you? We know you want the best for your child’s development, but between work and home chores, a tray of flour on the rug feels like a nightmare.

Messy play doesn't have to be overwhelming.

Here are some tips from our Teacher Husna!

Does your child save their biggest meltdowns for the moment they walk through the front door? 🏠🎒

You pick them up from school or the daycare, and the teacher says: "They were an absolute angel today!" But the moment they’re home? Tears, tantrums, and total exhaustion.

It’s called After-School Restraint Collapse.

For our busy parents, this can feel like you're doing something wrong. But here’s the secret: It actually means your child feels safe enough with you to let go of the "mask" they wore all day.

Stop the 5 PM cycle. Read our latest blog for 3 practical ways to help your child decompress after a long day.

Your child making a mess might actually be the best thing for their development. 🙌

We know — it doesn't always feel that way when there's paint on the walls and sand on the floor. But messy play is one of the most powerful tools we use at Mind Story, and here's why:

🧠 Improves sensory processing
When children touch, squeeze, smear and explore different textures, their brain learns how to process sensory information — a foundational skill for children with sensory sensitivities.

✋ Strengthens fine motor skills
Pinching, pouring, scooping and moulding all build the small muscle control your child needs for writing, self-care, and daily tasks.

🗣️ Encourages communication
Messy play naturally sparks curiosity — and curiosity leads to questions, words, and conversation. It's one of the most natural ways to draw language out of a child.

🧩 Builds problem-solving skills
What happens if I mix these two colours? What does this feel like? How do I get this off my hands? Children are scientists during messy play — experimenting, observing, and learning.

It's not about the mess. It's about the development. 💛

Next time your child digs into their food or splashes in a puddle — let them. Their brain is working overtime.

I was recently asked by a teacher that was newly assigned to a PPKI school - How does a teacher do therapy while in class?

My short answer was, "No, you don't. Teacher plays a different role while in class when compared to therapist."

The activity can be the same - cutting. But what a teacher is working on and what the therapist is working on are different.

What are your thoughts? Do share.
