Overdose doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes, it looks like someone who is “sleeping”—but cannot be awakened and is barely breathing.

This International Overdose Awareness Day, let’s learn to recognise the warning signs, respond without delay and replace judgement with compassion. An overdose is a medical emergency, and timely action can save a life.

Remember: Call 999, check breathing, give naloxone if an opioid overdose is suspected and it is available, and never leave the person alone.

Every life is worth saving. Let’s end overdose and the stigma surrounding it—one informed action at a time. 💜🐮

🐮 Medical Moo-nday is back!

This week, Scrubba is diving into hepatitis: inflammation of the liver that can arise from several causes, including infection by the hepatitis viruses A to E. 🦠

Although they all affect the liver, each hepatitis virus behaves differently. Some cause mainly acute, self-limiting infections, while others can persist and lead to chronic liver disease. Their routes of transmission, availability of vaccines, risk groups and treatments also differ, which can make them a little confusing to keep straight. 🫠

In this post, we break down the essentials of acute vs chronic hepatitis, hepatitis A–E, transmission, incubation periods, vaccination, clinical presentation, liver test patterns and treatment in one quick revision guide. 📚🩺
