Depression can profoundly alter our thought patterns, leading to negative cognitive biases. For instance, it can magnify negative events, distort perceptions of reality, and foster feelings of hopelessness. Decision-making becomes clouded, and it's common to overlook positives or to engage in "all-or-nothing" thinking. This skewed perception can worsen depressive symptoms, creating a cycle that's challenging to break without intervention.

Remember, reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness but a courageous step towards healing and reclaiming your well-being. The video below tells us signs we need to look out for in depression and the link below explains the effects of depression in our ability to think. Take a look for yourself and let us know your thoughts 💭

Everyone feels sad or low sometimes, but these feelings usually pass. Depression (also called major depression, major depressive disorder, or clinical depression) is different. It can cause severe symptoms that affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities, such as sleeping, eating, or working.

Regardless of who we are, how old we are, or what we do, depression can affect all of us in more ways than one.

The article above states that the stigma surrounding depression often stems from misconceptions and ignorance about mental health. People may view depression as a sign of weakness or laziness, which can lead to feelings of shame and guilt for those experiencing it. This stigma can prevent individuals from seeking help or disclosing their struggles, fearing judgment or discrimination.

It exacerbates feelings of isolation and can hinder recovery by creating barriers to accessing support and treatment. The stigma basically adds an extra layer of challenge for those already coping with the effects of depression, making it harder for them to get the help and understanding they need.

"Working on mental health symptoms takes courage, patience and determination. Take a moment to allow yourself to feel proud of all the hard work you do" - Tanja Windegger
