Sorry for the looooooong silence. Have been extremely busy with the online classes 🙏🏼.

Anyway, this question that I received this morning from a student prompted me to share the working. It's not the usual distance-speed-time question we get [refer to Q9 b(i)].

It's IGCSE Math 0580 Oct 2019 exam question.

Question received: When we want to square (in order to remove the modulus sign), must we also square the "2"?

Answer: Yes. We must also square the "2" because the concept that we apply here is that the equation must be balanced. Whatever we do on the left hand side of the equation, we must do the same on the right hand side of the equation. And that includes squaring the "2".
