New Arrival: Peru Cajamarca Loro Verde
This one comes from the highlands around Jaén, in northern Peru—where the conditions are perfect for great coffee, but not every farmer has the tools or support to fully bring out that potential.

The producers behind this lot are smallholder farmers who do everything by hand—from pulping to fermenting to drying their beans under the sun. It’s careful, honest work, but it hasn’t always been easy to maintain consistent quality. That’s where things start to change.

Once their coffee is ready, it’s brought to a central facility in Jaén, where each batch is tested, tasted, and scored. Farmers get real feedback and fair pricing based on quality—so they’re not just selling coffee, they’re learning how to improve it with every harvest.

Over time, with better drying support and quality control, you start to taste the difference in the cup. It’s not just a one-off good batch—it’s a system that’s helping farmers get better, and coffees become more consistent, traceable, and transparent from start to finish.

Profile: Medium roast (espresso)
Tasting notes: Toffee, red apple, cola
Cup: Smooth, balanced, and clean with a gentle sweetness and soft, lingering finish

Ethiopia Natural Guji Buku Abel (Espresso Roast)

Sourced from the highlands of Hambela Wamela, Guji (1,900–2,300 masl), Buku Abel is a natural-processed Ethiopian coffee recognized at the Taste of Harvest, achieving both national champion and regional champion titles.

Carefully hand-picked and dried on African raised beds for nearly three weeks, the slow natural process allows sugars and aromatics to fully develop, resulting in a coffee with intense fruit character, depth, and clarity.

Roasted for espresso, this coffee delivers a syrupy body and vibrant, fruit-forward profile:
🍓 strawberry
🍑 peach
🍊 lemon peel

Expect a cup that is structured, expressive, and lingering, showcasing the best of Guji’s highland terroir.

Ethiopia Alo Chilaka (NOVA) 72H Anaerobic Natural

We released this coffee because ALO is simply that good.

Behind this lot is Tamiru Tadesse of ALO Coffee, known for pushing Ethiopian coffees beyond traditional boundaries — combining high-altitude growing with precise, experimental processing.

This particular lot from Chilaka Village (2,100–2,400 masl) undergoes a 72-hour anaerobic fermentation, one of the most intensive processes in the Mars Project lineup.
By controlling oxygen and fermentation time so precisely, ALO is able to draw out deeper fruit expression and more complex aromatics from the heirloom variety.

In the cup, that translates to plum-forward richness, lifted raspberry acidity, and a distinct winey finish — bold, layered, and driven by fermentation.

Compared to our Hybrid Washed Chilaka, which is clean and elegant,
Nova is fuller, heavier, and far more expressive — showcasing what happens when processing is pushed with intention and control.

This isn’t just a different profile —
it’s a different side of Chilaka entirely.

Tasting notes: Plum · Raspberry · Winey

Ethiopia Natural Guji Lion King

Not your average cup — this one roars.

Named after Anbessa Niguši (“Lion King” in Amharic), this coffee comes from Guji, Ethiopia (2,100–2,300 masl) and is processed using the classic African raised-bed natural method — sun-dried for weeks to lock in all that juicy goodness.

What does that mean for your cup?
Think loud, proud, and impossible to ignore:
purple grape, lemon peel, bergamot

It’s full-bodied, syrupy, and fruit-forward — the kind of coffee that walks in like it owns the place (and honestly… it does).

If your usual coffee is more “quiet morning,” this one is “main character energy.”

Bold, balanced, or fruity… what coffee do you like?

One of the most common things we hear is:
“I’m not sure what to get…”

And honestly — that’s completely normal.

So here’s exactly how we usually guide you in-store:

☕️ If you like strong, bold, ‘kaw’ coffee
We’ll point you towards darker profiles.
Heavier body, chocolatey, lower acidity —
that solid, satisfying hit or kick.
→ Sumatra Gayo, Midnight Shadow

🍫 If you want something smooth and easy daily
Balanced profiles are your go-to.
Not too heavy, not too acidic — just clean and comforting, perfect in black and white coffee.
→ Genesis, 3 Wisemen

🍓🌸 If you’re open to something different
This is where it gets fun.
Fruity, floral, sometimes tea-like —
→ Revelation, Ethiopia Alo, BergWu Kenya

✨ And if you want something… a bit more special
This is where our microlot editions come in.
Small batches, unique profiles —
the kind you bring out when you want something a bit more wow.

And the best part?
All our coffees are roasted in-house in small batches
to bring out these exact flavour profiles.

“It must be nice having your own coffee shop.”

It is… but it’s not always easy.

Because behind the busy days are the quiet ones.

The ones where it gets into your head,
where you watch revenue fall
and wonder if you’re doing enough.

But you still show up the next day.
And try again.

“If I like chocolatey and nutty coffees… what does that say about me?”

An aunty asked us this after our public cupping.

We had just gone through everything, from heavy chocolatey profiles to floral and funky coffees.

We told her, it just means you know what you like. That’s a good thing.

Then she asked again.
Same question.

That’s when it clicked.

She wasn’t asking about coffee.
She was asking… is my preference wrong?

Somewhere along the way, coffee became something people feel judged about. Like if you don’t enjoy bright, complex flavours, you’re somehow “less”.

But honestly, that’s not true.

Every coffee has its place. And if you like chocolatey, nutty coffees, that’s your coffee. No explanation needed.

Coffee was never meant to feel intimidating. It’s just a way for people to connect.

Thanks to everyone who came by and shared the table with us.

Not too long ago, we had the privilege of cupping with the team from Eighty Plus Coffee. There were more than 20 coffees on the table, but these three kept pulling us back. That session eventually led to us working together with Eighty Plus Coffee to bring these ALO coffees into our roastery, and we’re really excited to finally share them with you.

All three coffees come from ALO Coffee in Ethiopia, produced by Tamiru Tadesse — Winner of COE 2021 Producer and Exporter of high-end Specialty Coffee, a producer known for his meticulous approach to processing and quality....we know we can’t go wrong with his beans.

The Eighty Plus team had travelled to the farm themselves and collaborated exclusively with ALO Coffee to produce Chilaka, part of an experimental fermentation project known as the Mars Project.

One producer. Three completely different expressions.

Ethiopia ALO Bona — Washed
A beautifully clean and elegant cup. Expect bright clarity, delicate florals, and a refined sweetness that lets the character of Ethiopian terroir shine through.

Ethiopia ALO Bacha — Natural
Juicy, vibrant, and fruit-forward. This natural lot bursts with sweetness and lively aromatics, revealing layers of ripe fruit and florals as the cup opens up.

Ethiopia ALO Chilaka — Mars Project (Hybrid Washed)
An experimental lot from the Mars Project, where a unique fermentation process brings deeper layers and complexity to the cup — structured, aromatic, and incredibly intriguing.

Psst… we might also be brewing up something special on how to showcase these three coffees at our Coffee Experience Bar. Stay tuned.
