MAESTRO2026 INTRODUCTION

Photos from Microwave Research Institute's post 02/02/2026

Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nurul Huda and Dr. Siti Amalina have embarked on an exciting international academic journey on 24 January 2026, accompanied by six postgraduate students (three Masterโ€™s and three PhD candidates), as they arrived at Fukuoka International Airport to participate in a 15-day Sakura Science Exchange Program in Japan.

The Sakura Science Exchange Program is sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) under the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), underscoring Japanโ€™s commitment to advancing international scientific collaboration and talent development.

The programme is hosted by the Education Center for Semiconductor and Value Creation, Kyushu University, and the delegation was warmly received by Haruichi Kanaya, Director of the Centre and Professor at the Graduate School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University.

Designed as an intensive and immersive programme, the Sakura Science Exchange Program provides a dynamic platform for academic exchange and collaboration in RF and microwave engineering and semiconductor-related research. The programme strengthens international research ties while offering participating postgraduate students valuable global exposure, hands-on research experience, and direct engagement with leading experts in the field.

What happens when bright young minds meet artificial intelligence, real-world problems, and hands-on engineering?
๐Ÿ‘‰ You get future innovators in action!

The Microwave Research Institute (MRI), Universiti Teknologi MARA, with the support of the IEEE Malaysia Antennas and Propagation / Microwave Theory and Technology / Electromagnetic Compatibility (AP/MTT/EMC) Joint Chapter, Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), Industrial Electronics/ Industry Applications (IE/IA) Joint Chapter, Control Systems Society (CSS), and Education Society (EduSoc) proudly hosted a high-energy STEM workshop for selected students from MRSM Pengkalan Hulu, and the results were nothing short of AMAZING.

This wasnโ€™t a typical workshop. The students didnโ€™t sit and listen.
They designed. coded. tested. built. failed. improved. and BUILT again.

Using a capstone-style, real-engineering approach, each team transformed ideas into real working smart systems powered by machine learning.

Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Megat Syahirul Amin Megat Ali, and powered by an incredible mentor team, Dr. Muhammad Hasif Azami, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nurul Huda Abd Rahman, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Norashikin M. Thamrin, and Dr. Siti Amalina Enche Ab Rahim, the students went through the full innovation journey from zero to prototype.

And what did they achieve?
* 5 fully functioning smart system prototypes
* Live demos + eye-catching posters
* Early exposure to innovation ownership & intellectual property
* 5 copyrights

The closing ceremony was electric, filled with excitement, proud parents, supportive teachers, and inspiring IEEE Malaysia societies representatives. Certificates were presented, cameras were flashing, and young innovators stood tall beside the systems they built themselves.

They didnโ€™t walk away with just certificates.
They walked away with REAL PROTOTYPES. REAL SKILLS. REAL CONFIDENCE. ๐Ÿ’ช
And yes, these projects are ready to hit innovation and STEM competitions.

This is how the future is built.
One idea. One team. One brave young innovator at a time.

The Microwave Research Institute (MRI), Universiti Teknologi MARA, was pleased to welcome Dr. Yash Chawla, Founder of CRAFT (Collaboratory for Responsible and Future Technologies) and Deputy Head of the Department of Computational Social Science, Faculty of Management, Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology, Poland.

This visit was an outcome of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Megat Syahirul Aminโ€™s recent engagement in France, during which Dr. Chawla was introduced by Prof. Kamel Haddadi (Universitรฉ de Lille), leading to subsequent online discussions and the identification of potential areas of collaboration.

His 7-day visit featured a series of strategic engagements, including exploration of the potential establishment of a CRAFT Malaysia Chapter, the organisation of an interactive public session (CRAFT B.E.E.R.), and a roundtable discussion to outline a collaborative and multidisciplinary research framework involving UiTM, Wrocล‚aw University of Science and Technology, and Universitรฉ de Lille.

From France to Malaysia, and now expanding across Europe and Asia, this is how meaningful collaborations begin: with conversations, shared visions, and the courage to build something together. Excited for what lies ahead and grateful for the connections that make this journey possible.
