My name is Gunabalan Kanthan (Guna), and I’m a certified Microsoft Excel Expert and HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, offering specialized Excel training courses. My journey with Excel began during my 22-year career at various multinational corporations (MNCs), where mastering this tool became the key to my professional success. With a background in engineering and a love for math, I launched my career

right after graduating in 2001. Although I started in engineering, my career quickly transitioned into roles that focused on project costing, sales operations, ERP data management, price management, funnel management, sales performance management, and more. Across my 22 years, I moved through several departments—handling everything from tender management to sales performance. While my work was no longer tied directly to engineering, the analytical skills I developed through Excel remained essential. In my first role, I spent 12 years diving deep into Excel, using it for complex project costing and developing tools to estimate engineering scopes like gas piping, exhaust systems, and electrical wiring. It was there that I truly realized how mastering Excel could accelerate one’s career. My proficiency allowed me to create fast, accurate reports, build insightful dashboards, and deliver data-driven presentations. This not only improved my work efficiency but also played a significant role in promotions and salary increases. Beyond the technical advantages, Excel also helped me build stronger relationships within the workplace. As word spread about my Excel expertise, colleagues started seeking my help, whether it was troubleshooting issues or coaching them on advanced functions. Sharing my knowledge not only enhanced my professional reputation but also deepened my connections with coworkers across various departments. Excel wasn’t just a tool for professional growth; it also played a pivotal role in my personal life, particularly in planning my financial freedom. After years of honing my Excel skills in the corporate world, I decided to pursue my passion for teaching. Today, I’m proud to offer Excel courses and solutions to individuals and businesses, helping them harness the power of Excel the same way I did. What sets my training apart is my extensive industry experience. Having worked in multiple departments within large organizations, I understand both the processes and the pain points. I’ve designed custom syllabuses tailored to real-world business needs, ensuring my clients gain practical skills they can immediately apply in their careers. I also share insights from my own professional journey with young professionals, giving them tools for both Excel mastery and career success. In June 2025, I became a HRD Corp Accredited Trainer and this certification affirms my commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful learning experiences to working professionals and businesses. With my passion for Excel, backed by years of experience, certification as a Microsoft Excel Expert, and official recognition as a HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, I’m excited to continue empowering others on their journey to success through the power of Excel.

Excel Skills That Actually Matter at Work

Many people think being good at Microsoft Excel means knowing hundreds of formulas or advanced tricks.

In reality, the Excel skills that matter most at work are often much simpler, but much more practical.

Here are a few Excel skills that quietly make a big difference in the workplace:

✅ Organising data properly
✅ Using formulas confidently (SUMIF, IF, XLOOKUP, COUNTIF, etc.)
✅ Cleaning messy data before analysis
✅ Summarising data with PivotTables
✅ Creating simple charts and reports
✅ Building Excel files that others can understand

Good Excel skills are not about showing off complicated formulas.

They help you:
📌 Save time
📌 Reduce mistakes
📌 Analyse data better
📌 Build professional reports
📌 Make smarter decisions at work

Whether you are a beginner learning Excel or someone trying to improve workplace productivity, mastering the right Excel habits matters more than memorising everything.

Conducted a fun and engaging Microsoft Excel Intermediate training session last week for a Sales & Marketing team from the healthcare industry.

Great energy from the participants throughout the session, especially when learning XLOOKUP, PivotTables, slicers, and dashboard-style reporting techniques.

Although some topics went beyond the planned syllabus, the participants were eager to learn more, so we explored a few advanced Excel concepts together too.

Happy to see the team perform well in the final assessment and actively participate during the hands-on exercises.

Always satisfying to see professionals becoming more confident and productive with Excel.

If your company is looking for practical and hands-on Excel training programs, feel free to reach out to me.
