Early in his career he Thamby trained in Karate as well as Jujutsu under Walter De Silva and was awarded a black belt in 1952. In a brave move at the time, Thamby moved to Japan in 1957 for a year to study Judo at the Kodokan. We wrapped up June with a joyful and energetic Open Day on the 28th of June — a fantastic way to close the month! The dojo was filled with laughter, curiosity, and a strong sense of community as many children arrived with their families and friends.
One of the highlights was the introductory Aikido class for kids, where newcomers learned alongside their peers in a fun, inclusive setting. They later took to the mat for a short demonstration led by Navin Francis Sensei, showing great focus and spirit — a proud moment for all.
The demo continued with a ladies’ self-defense demo, followed by demonstrations by Noveen Mannath Sensei, Ramlan Ortega Shihan, and a closing demonstration by Joe Thambu Shuseki Shihan, Chief Instructor of Aikido Shudokan International. He also led an introductory adult class and a beginner-friendly weapon class, inspiring participants with his warmth, insight, and dynamic teaching.
Throughout the day, the dojo buzzed with laughter, curiosity, and heartfelt exchanges. Many left feeling inspired — whether they were first-timers or long-time members — and excited to continue their journey with Aikido.
The Shudokan extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined and contributed to the success of the day. From volunteers to instructors, families to visitors — your presence made this day truly meaningful. We look forward to more opportunities to open our doors, share the art of Aikido, and grow together as a community.

Dear Parents, Members and Students! 👋
We’ll be running a special schedule this Sunday (29 June 2025) at the dojo. There will be 2 classes this Sunday, a mixed children/adults class at 9.30am - 10.30am followed by a Blackbelt only class at 10.45am - 11.45am.
These special classes will be taught by Joe Thambu Shuseki Shihan, who will be managing a few other commitments that day. We appreciate your understanding and support in keeping to the adjusted timings
Please take note of the updated time only for this Sunday (29 June 2025). Registration is required in advance so we know who's coming for the classes.
